"Not great for EV drivers as when you take the car to charge, you cannot return to the hotel to park. And the cleanliness in the bathroom prevented me from bathing my 3 year old."

"An EV charger would be beneficial. Staff are pleasant and breakfast was great. Nice rooms with slightly dodgy water pressure on the shower but not bad. Really comfy bed and would definitely recommend."

"Beautiful room, very friendly hosts. Comfortable bed. Biscuits and chocolates in the room were a nice surprise. Lovely breakfast. Probably only downside was it wasn't that warm, but there was a plug-in heater in the bedroom. "

"Lovely attentive staff, bar and restaurant busy but atmospheric which was lovely, food good. Hotel room ok, so hot couldn't sleep had to turn Radiators down and open the window, but then we heard the noise of the traffic unfortunately both my husband and I hardly slept! 6 am someone was emptying bottles into the recycling bins which woke us up yet again, never managed to get off again."

Hotel and Spa amazing. Shame about service in Thai

"Stayed here for one night on business. Great rate for the night. Check in great. Room fantastic with a bit of wow factor upon entering. Very clean, comfy bed. Swimming pool fantastic. Fusion restaraunt food lovely but service not great. I was approached almost as soon as i sat down for food ordering but i hadnt seen the menu yet so i asked for 2 minutes. 15 minutes later a server came and apologised for the wait. Which at least she acknowledged i was waiting. Food came, lovely and tasty, but noone checked on me to see if everything was okay with my meal. Then when i finished my meal i waited for what felt like forever for someone to clear my plates. When someone finally came over i just asked for the bill and didnt even wait for my plates to be cleared. Just a bit of advice, when there is a solo female traveller eating on her own, she may not feel comfortable waiting around for so long. This doesnt bother me but i do know colleagues and friends who sometimes may feel vulnerable because travelling on business and just wants to eat and leave. This was not possible for me and i was left for around 45 minutes longer than needed. I did try to catch the servers eyes but they genuinely did not look in my direction at all. So felt a little overlooked. Bit of a shame."

Great place to stay

"The hotel is well situated from Durham city, about 10-15 minutes drive to either The Riverwalk or Walkergate very central car parks. The family room (3 people) was comfortable, cleaned every day and spacious. The hotel has a great Thai restaurant and pub/bar (food and drinks in both areas, affordable prices). The staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended."

Finchale Abbey, first floor apartment within an historic 11th Century Farmhouse.

Beautifully renovated apartment in a really special setting

"Finchale is such a beautiful place, next to the priory ruins in a bend of the river Wear - amazing views across the river, or from the far bank to the priory. The big sitting room has views of the river on three sides, and is a really comfortable and relaxing room. There's a well-provided kitchen and generous modern bathroom (and separate WC). Bedrooms are very restful too - I would say the high sleeper in the third bedroom is best suited to the younger (under 50 at any rate) and/or more agile, but a great night's sleep once you get up there! There are steps between levels but my blind and nearly-90-year-old mother managed without difficulty, and also loved the place.The apartment is wonderfully warm and cosy, and you fall asleep to the sound of the river and occasional owls - such a treat. It was an amazing place to spend Christmas, and within easy reach of Durham where our daughter was singing at the Cathedral. Ann was a super welcoming and helpful host. We could not have been happier."
