"The building was originally a Sugercane factory and the conversion has retained the dark hues and colours making the hotel warm and cosy. Our booking was for family of 4 and we booked into one of the garden pool suites. The package was b&b and came with an upgrade to the “premium service”. I would say the latter is well worth having as it gives you free access to the underground car park, the spa and an upstairs lounge with great views and where you can have breakfast (from a menu) and drinks and snacks. Really made the stay even better. The bedroom & attached lounge was large but had some quirky design issues. Eg the shower had no door or the bedroom was open to the basin area. Ok if there are two of you but needed a bit better planning when 4. This is a great hotel and as it was s not in Funchal (30 min drive) is much more relaxed and a spa. "

"I didnt realize this was on the other side of the island. I am happy we stayed here. Very quiet at night and everything you need right there. Be sure to rent a car if staying here. It cost 90 Euros from the airport to the hotel by taxi. "

"We had an incredible stay at Socalco! We stayed in the cave room and it was a beautiful and unique experience. The room was comfortable and the property grounds are gorgeous. We had an incredibly relaxing stay- a perfect retreat after hiking around the island. The staff gave excellent recommendations for places to explore. I highly recommend getting dinner at their restaurant. We ended up eating there both nights of our stay because we had such an incredible experience the first night. Everything is made fresh and includes food from their garden. Their is no menu, the chef changes what he makes daily. "

"An enjoyable stay. Room was very big, quiet, had a nice view & comfortable. Good breakfast & buffet dinner one night. Folk dance show was good too (I even got to dance). Parking garage was fine. "

"Perfect location and view, friendly helpful staff. Good amenities and restaurant. Really liked that you book the sauna just for you each time. The only negative was parking. Not enough, whats there is filled all day and evening with day tourists to the pools so on returning to the hotel in an evening we had to park elsewhere and then go out last thing and move the car if a space had freed up to save getting a fine in the morning."
