The Plaine des Cafres is a village located in the heights of Reunion on a plateau wedged between the Piton des Neiges and the Piton de la Fournaise.
This plateau is separated from that of the Plaine des Palmistes by the Col de Bellevue whose attitude reaches 1. 606 meters.
To the west, it dominates the deep ravine of Bras de la Plaine; to the east, it overlooks the valley carved by a tributary of the river ramparts.
Fertile soil and a cool climate make the Plaine des Cafres an ideal region for agriculture. Numerous pastures illustrate the importance of livestock farming in the region, particularly cattle. It is also the Plaine des Cafres where most of the milk produced in Reunion comes from.
