We enjoyed our stay at the Cypress Resort! Our room was quiet, clean, and fairly large (by Japanese standards especially!) with a wonderful sea view. While a bit pricey (¥2200), we had a nice buffet breakfast with a decent selection of both Western and Japanese options, including free-pour Prosecco to make mimosas. The public bath was a bit small but was nice nonetheless.
We spent a day lounging by the pool in the comfortable loungers, although the pool itself was a bit too cool for me (others were in the water). It’s not really possible to swim in the ocean in front of the hotel, as it’s quite shallow, even at high tide. At low tide, there are just shallow tidal pools showing.
The one downside to the hotel is its location, as there is nothing else nearby. If you don’t have your own transportation, it makes for a challenge as it limits you to eating at the hotel restaurant (FYI: you can arrange free pick-up/drop-off at the port or airport by phoning the hotel. I had a Japanese friend do this for me as I wasn’t sure how good the staff’s English would be. While it didn’t seem like any were fluent in English, they did know enough to be able to communicate though.). We ended up booking a car for a few hours through the hotel and would highly recommend doing this as the island has a lot of interesting sights to see!
