"Overall very nice ocean front facility, rooms are clean, older but comfortable. AC works well. Staff though not very well trained are trying their best to be helful. Food is good, lots of chices and close to authentic. Difficulty road to get to the hotel, then this is normal for Sri Lankan hotel outside of Colombo. "

"I left my heart in Talalla Retreat. Incredible staff who were so welcoming and hard working, the Retreat itself is stunning. I had an upstairs bedroom so was able to fully enjoy the surroundings. The food was incredible. I felt super safe. I didn’t want to leave. A must visit - and please do as the Sri Lankan people need visitors right now. "

"A beautiful property especially if you take the Villas, the beach is public but it was the best beach for our young children to swim in. The food provided at the public beach is some of the best we had. "

"Very relaxing stay next to the lagoon but also an easy walk to the beach. Only one restaurant was open aged that was on the beach so a bit of a trek when it rained. My room looked out on to a corridor which wasn’t ideal and the sealant around bathroom fittings was black with mildew. But largely these are minor details to a comfortable and relaxing stay at a fair price."

"Not clean. Internet very bad. Owner said she would not purchase more gigabytes that I was downloading. I told her I wasn’t. Then said I was watching too many videos. There wasn’t a tv for the evening so I did watch some videos but I have never had this problem when I have booked with Expedia at any other property. I was on the top floor and she told me I had booked the cheapest room. I was not aware of that. I had fan only and I thought I had booked air conditioning. The worst room I have ever...

"We arrived there after a 5 hr drive to find it closed, actually more like abandoned. There was no one working there much less staying there. Luckily we found a beautiful place down the beach. Very disheartening that Expedia would take bookings for a place that’s not even open. Worst of it is that even after we notified Expedia you can still book it !!"

"From the house itself, the area, to the service- it was all rather underwhelming. The house is nice but much smaller than it appears- especially the pool. When we arrived there was no power (not their fault however the host knew already for a day and failed to mention this). The host and her property manager did not offer any help or solutions- we even had to ask for some candles as we were sitting in the pitch black for a while. "Friendly staff and facilities at the hotel are good. Nearest beach is a rocky beach. Last few KM of the road leading to the hotel is very poor. This section needs to upgrade and possibly out of hotel managements' control. They may need to coordinate with the neighboring hotels and the local authority. However, signs leading to the hotel from the main road is not very clear. Google maps lead to a circuitous route. Need to upgrade the signs leading to the hotel in every junction and this is under hotel management. "

"One of the best hotels that we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Right up against the beach front with beautiful views, modern and spacious rooms, and great facilities. The food served at the restaurant was reasonably proced and delicious, and the hotel is very close to Mirissa Beach and Turtle Point. Most importantly, the staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating, making our stay a very positive experience. We will definitely be back when travelling Sri Lanka next, and would highly recommend to anyone else going through Mirissa."

"There are 3 hotels in the Somerset group. This is away from the beach. Its up a very steep narrow concrete road. Its dark in the night and only 1 vehicle can go up or down this dark narrow road. The hotel staff are really nice. The rooms are a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was a joke as compared to hotels we have stayed in colombo. There was no buffet. Just a plate of fruit and eggs if you asked. Better stay is closer to the beach and somerset has a hotel right on tne beach"
