"We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Cally Palace Hotel. We don't play golf but the golf course looked immaculate and very picturesque. The house was built between 1763 and 1765 and the gardens and woods gradually added over the next century. The rooms are very spacious with a big bathroom and 2 comfortable armchairs. The bed was so wide that I couldn't get near my wife! We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi - we never saw more than 4 people in there at a time. The food in the restaurant was very good for an evening meal, although we also found good restaurants in Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas. We were worried about the badly burned toast served to everyone on the first morning and the hard boiled poached eggs but the chefs must have changed for the other two days as their breakfasts were much better apart from some completely inedible scrambled egg on the second day. Staff were always polite and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay so much that we intend to go back for a longer time next year."
