Magical
The magical Rock Villa must have one of the most stunning vistas not only in Kea, but in Greece, which has abundantly beautiful views. Whether on the terraces or inside the villa with its large windows, one is entranced by the sea, so very close, with its ever-changing and mesmerizing colors and tones. Built of stone, the villa sits high on a cliff, just a few kilometers from Xyla Beach, a small, uncrowded and charming little beach. This is the villa's beauty--its isolated location-- and potentially a deficit if you do not have a car that can travel on a very, very rough narrow road and if you do not have the nerve to drive around blind corners without guardrails. Not wanting to drive at night after some lovely Kean wine, we chose either to have late lunches or to pick up wonderful treats at Aristaios' Market in Corissia. The intrepid and excellent property manager, Maria, who knows everyone and everything about Kea, urged us to simply turn up the headlights and charge forward, and one could do that! The other strange detail given the spacious villa was the teeny kitchen that was impossible to cook in without using the outside counters to prepare. That said, sleeping in the comfortable bed and looking out as the moon rose and hearing the crashing waves, put the deficits into perspective. There are a few very close neighboring villas that were mostly unoccupied when we visited, but sound does travel. It's hard to imagine, but the villa is even more beautiful than the photos.
