The breakfast and dinner menus were copious, delicious and made with local ingredients. Even a simple tomato could shine with the incredible skills of the chef. Zao onsen has a reputation as a winter resort but we've thoroughly enjoyed hiking the mountain in summer to come back to warm smiles, relaxing sulfuric waters (really helped my skin) and incredible food.
