"Nice resort and rooms looking onto pool and beach area have a nice outlook. Large breakfast areas, we were in the rasa wing with club facilities, food in lounge was nice, staff in lounge were lovely however the lounge is v large and often extremely busy. There isn’t really a beach as the coast has eroded and is all rocks. We had a pleasant stay however have been in nicer shangrila hotels."

"Large and comfortable room, nice shower, room safe and everything else you would need. I’m not sure how old the hotel is but it is just starting to feel a little dated in the rooms. Staff were super friendly and helpful, also nice to have the pool table and a few other activities in the lobby. "If you stay here, you must book a sea view balcony room….the ocean view day and night is beautiful…since it’s on a public beach, you sometimes get firework show from the locals too. The bed is so comfortable and enough room to sleep three. We had minor problems with a clogged sink and a broken shampoo dispenser but that was quickly resolved once we notified housekeeping (A on the response and even tidied up our bed). "Under my circumstances the hotel was beautiful. Careful in the sun. I got a little sunburned because of a lack of enough umbrellas. But great place. Prices in bar and restaurants a bit high. Guess they figure if you can pay for the place, you won't mind the prices. Breakfast buffet was awesome. Staff incredibly friendly "

"This was the second time we stayed at the Ascott within a month. We were in Penang for over three weeks to celebrate the Chinese New Year with our family in Penang. "Repeat customer. Third time back in his hotel but this time was a disappointment. I booked and paid on 27 DEC. Arrived at the hotel on 31 JAN receptionist said cannot find my booking because was booked last minute?? Wasted 20-25 mins and another receptionist-Mariyam or Mariah sorted out a room for me."

"Please note: the area around the property is safe at night. However it is a commercial area, so no tourist sights, no history, nothing to see, nothing to do, limited public transportation. You can eat out like in other parts of Penang, so no worries that you'll be forced to take all meals in the hotel. But otherwise is very much a check-in and sleep kind of place."
