About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Comfy Farm House with a back yard full of fun near Jefferson City, MO. Sleeps 6!

This quaint ranch-style home is perfectly situated in the heart of Osage County. It's much more than a roof over your head for a night - make it your destination vacation!

The home sleeps six (two queen beds and two twin beds) and has one bathroom.

The back yard has tons of activities for kids and adults alike. We have a barn loft full of games for the kids; a playhouse, playgrounds - including a John Deere combine with a deck and two slides; a fire truck with a playhouse on top and a slide; a regular swing set; and a large sandbox with diggers, a hiking trail, a school bus with giant Legos inside, a deck with six Adirondack chairs and a propane fire pit; a large pavilion with picnic tables, a couple different merry-go-rounds and a sound garden! Oh - and we have chickens too!

Just 1/2 mile north of beautiful and historic Westphalia, MO, on Highway 63, the home is less than a few miles from several beautiful wedding venues (Kempker's Back 40, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Westphalia Lions Den and Knights of Columbus Hall), and will accommodate your family in comfortable surroundings.

The home features:
- A large, comfortable living room
- Full kitchen - well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, full-sized refrigerator, stove and microwave -- everything you should need for your stay.
- Large utility room with washer and dryer and plenty of extra storage space, including clothes rack.
- Dining room with seating for six and a fully-stocked coffee bar
- Sun room with wicker couch and rocking chair
- Master bedroom on main level with queen bed
- Bathroom stocked with plenty of towels and washcloths

The upstairs of the home is divided into two bedrooms. The larger of the two rooms is furnished with two twin beds and a small sitting area. The smaller room is furnished with a queen size bed. The upstairs has sloped ceilings on the sides, and the main part of the rooms have a clearance of 6'6".

We call the home "Herman's House," named for Herman Brendel, the man who built it for his bride, Bernadette Koester, in the early 1960's.

While we don't provide breakfast, we have several great options. You can always bring your own food and make use of the kitchen; just down the road is Joe's Market (a wonderfully fully-stocked grocery store with Hunt Brother's Pizza available); there is also the Eagle Stop with Godfather's Pizza; and Westphalia Pizza is located on Main Street.

Herman's House is a pet-friendly, no-smoking home.

The most fun stay yet!
We have rented weekend properties in Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, and Missouri and Herman’s House is by far the most fun stay we have had! The home is so cozy, clean, and has everything you could possibly need. The grounds have so much to do and play on. We enjoyed s’mores at the fire table every night and took a hike to see the original homestead. The owners were easy to communicate with and were very helpful if we needed anything!

Cute house away from the city (about a 20 min drive). We had older kids but it would be great for little kids. The outdoor space was adorable.

Great stay
3 moms and 3 toddlers stayed at the cabin for 2 nights. We had a blast and hope to stay again soon. It was clean, peaceful, and lots of the activities for the kids to rotate between. On check out day, my car wouldn’t start and the hosts came to check and attempted to jump my vehicle. They were kind and let me wait inside while a tow truck was on its way. Very kind people!

Nice Place
The property itself is awesome and the owners seem great! However, I should’ve read more reviews because there is no petting zoo anymore; my 10 and 7 year olds were a little disappointed by that. My wife had dental surgery in Jeff City, so we chose this place because it was close and seemed perfect. We aren’t very social people and prefer to stay to ourselves, so seeing the owner outside the house at 8am everyday watering plants threw us off. If you want to enjoy your morning coffee outside, be prepared. The biggest plus was getting to take our fur babies with us! Overall, it was wonderful just expect to see people outside.

Comfortable and Cozy
We loved staying in this farmhouse on our trip to Jefferson City (just 15-20 minutes away)! The property had a lot to offer, especially if you have kids! Everything was as described and better with all the little touches that make a getaway that much better. I enjoyed cooking in the well-stocked kitchen. I slept right through the storms in a comfy bed with high thread-count sheets. My teenage daughter enjoyed sitting in the sun room to write her novel! And when the tornado warning came through that evening, we had the safety of a basement! 😉 The weather limited our outdoor time, which made me extra grateful for how comfortable and cozy the farmhouse was. And our hosts were very responsive when we needed anything! I highly recommend!

Visiting family
Our trip was in the bitter frozen winter weather and the home was toasty warm. The home was very very clean and quaint. Nice living room furniture bedrooms were very large and comfortable. The kitchen had all the equipment needed to prepare a large meal and the dining room table was suited for a king. The bathroom had a shower and the most wonderful deep tub for excellent soaking. The Farm house was on a direct route to Jefferson City an easy 15 minute drive. The hosts were pleasant and most accommodating answered questions quickly and allowed us to extend our visit by two more days. We would definitely recommend this vacation rental with a five star

Convenient and very comfortable with excellent communication
We stayed in the bitter, cold winter weather the home was warm and toasty. It’s a very quaint home very spacious, with large furniture, and was very comfortable. Bedrooms very large for a guest house. We were supplied with all the kitchen essentials. The home was only 15 minutes from Jefferson City, Missouri an easy drive. One could not ask for a nicer host. I would recommend this VRBO to anyone with a small group to 6 persons. We truly enjoyed our stay. Gina F..

Perfect resting spot on our road trip
This is such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Try to arrive when it’s light out or note that you’re going to Herman’s house because directions given may be general. The house is relaxing, comfortable and clean… it really was a perfect spot to stay on our travels. If you read other reviews, the petting zoo is no longer open and the only animals remaining are chickens. But the trails on the property are fun to walk and the hosts did an amazing job creating play areas for kids… we especially liked the sound garden where we could beat in pots and pans!

Out of Town Work
I booked this room for four of my employees who were working out of town. The guys said the hosts were accommodating and the property was nice. The only issue they had, and I knew this going into it was they only had one shower. Not the end of the world. Overall, they said it was a good experience.

Peaceful weekend getaway
Our group (4 adults, 2 kids) really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. The farmhouse was charming and kids loved the animals (goats, donkeys, cows, turkeys, bunnies, chickens, geese, peacocks, pigeons). Bring quarters for the feed machine so you can feed the goats. Also bring your walking shoes and take one of the trails in the woods. The hosts were accommodating and set up the fire pit with firewood for us as well as took us on a tractor ‘train’ ride two different days. There were plenty of blankets and towels for all guests, with a kitchen stocked with kitchenware. This made it easy to cook family dinner. We got to go into town and eat at the Westphalia Pizza Haus as well as picked up food and drinks from Paul’s Market. The place and town was quiet, though the Farmhouse is livelier in the fall when their pumpkin patch and Westphalia Trading Company are open for the season.

A great, unusual getaway
The house is just north of Westphalia and on a farmer’s market / petting zoo. We try to go somewhere out of the ordinary for my wife’s birthday. We had hoped to take in some outdoor activities but weather did not cooperate. The home itself is very comfortable and enjoyable with all the modern conveniences such as wi-fi, flat screen, ect. Would be a great place to bring our grandkids when the petting zoo is open.
