Beautiful home between glacier and sea, Iceland

PERFECT PLACE TO EXPLORE ICELAND. STUNNING VIEW TO THE GLACIER AND SEA
Kjarvalströð is a new luxury 'old style' privately owned cottage located in the spectacular and unique surroundings of Snaefellsnes on the west coast of Iceland. To Hellnar, it takes approx. 2.5 hours to drive from Reykjavik. The National Park is only 5 min away. Enjoy the magnificent views of the glacier Snaefellsjökull, the surrounding mountains and over the bay Faxaflói. The cottage is one of a few cottages designed as Icelandic houses from the 1920s. There are plenty of things to do and see in the area such as: beautiful hiking, whale watching, sailing around the many islands, historical places, bird watching, horse riding, skiing and sightseeing on the glacier.

If you are looking for a quiet area to relax or want to explore the unspoiled nature and many wonderful activities in the area, the cottage is the perfect place!

Lovely cabin in stupendously beautiful area
The cabin is charming, clean and very comfortable. It is about a 2 hour drive from Reykjavik. We drove along the Golden Circle one long day to the more touristed areas but really found the sites on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula just as spectacular.

Cozy cottage tucked in a perfect location!
My fiancé and I stayed in Jakob's cottage for a few days as we were going to be eloping on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We absolutely loved our time there and Jakob was very helpful in preparing us for our stay. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location can't be beat, as it sits within walking distance to the wonderful Primus Kaffi and the Hellnar church. We would highly recommend staying here!

Wonderful cottage in a great location
We stayed in this cottage for 4 nights in the beginning of May. The cottage was in a great location for us to explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula. When we saw everyone scurrying around the peninsula to see it all in one day we were very happy to go back to this cozy place. The cottage itself was very nice in every way. Everything was neat and clean and even though the weather was cold and windy we were very comfortable in our cozy cottage.

Perfect Snaefellsnes location
Full disclosure - We’re repeat customers. This property is perfectly located for exploring Snaefellsnes. The upstairs bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of room to spread out. Downstairs is perfect for recovering from exploring the park or cooking a meal after walking the coastline. The property is well maintained, all the amenities are available as listed and the hosts are great to work with. If you’re looking for a place to stay and experience the magic of the western peninsula, this is an excellent harbor from which to launch those adventures.

Hellnar never disappoints
My husband and I have stayed at this property two times in the past. Our third visit did not disappoint. This was our first time experiencing Hellnar in the summer versus the winter and we loved every minute of the home and the village. We had a bit of pause when we realized the cottage was under new control where, but everything is exactly the same and Aline and Fabian were very responsive to our needs. Hellnar and this cottage renews the soul. We will be back.

Everything nice and fine but just a little but
The house has everything and makes one feel like home from the get go. The location was perfect for us with hiking opportunities at the doorstep. The little but is just, that we got a list of things to clean and how to clean and so on. That's basically fine, if one knows in advance. We checked our booking and could not find these instructions. We complied, because we wanted to feel someone else as home as we felt. Our suggestion: Just inform in advance and one can choose knowing. Despite that little inconvenience, we highly recommend a stay.

Perfect!
We are a couple who are in love with Iceland and who were on our fifth visit. We have stayed in many places all over Iceland and they have all been excellent. However, Jakob and Elsa have the best of all worlds - a soacious, well-equipped, warm, clean home from home in a location which is second to none. When the storms raged, we chilled out safe and warn inside with lots brilliand Clint Eastwood films (plus many more). And when they had blown over we were at the foot of the glacier, right on the beach, with birds nesting nearby and very little light pollution when we wanted to wander outside and look at the Northern Lights. The Snaefellsnes National Park has so many natural wonders to visit and well-marked routes, you will not run out of adventures to have. Thank you for letting us share your beautiful home. We hope to be back soon! Warm regards, Peter and Lucy

One of my favorite rentals ever! Magical!
My husband and I stayed in one of the luxury cottages during our stay in Iceland. We were there for 4 nights and the location was amazing. The view of the water and coast is spectacular and very little light pollution so we had fantastic views of the Northern Lights. The cottage itself was very clean, a ton of amenities and all in all was a very quaint, charming experience. The house was delightfully decorated with a lot of mood lighting for those cozy, cold Iceland evenings. The kitchen was quite stocked with utensils, platters, spices and oils for cooking. Very, very accommodating and private! The drive to the Snaefellsjokull National Park is short and easy even during the winter. We also found the location nice as we felt that we really got away, but weren't far from towns, such as, Rif and Olafsvik if we needed something. The owners, Elsa and Jakob, were very organized as well. They sent a lot of information to make our stay easier beforehand. I would definitely take their advice regarding stopping for groceries in Borganes prior to arriving at their cottage. This was much more cost effective than any of the nearby groceries. Their fridge and freezer are quite spacious for Europe so you can stock up. I hope we make it back some day!

Nice cabin in a gorgeous area
First of all. The cabin is nice. The area it is located in is excellent. But when we arrived at the cabin it turns out you have to start your stay by washing the linnen from the previous occupants. So we found dirty, wet linnen all over the bathroom. We were not prepared for this, because nowhere in the descriptions of the cabin was this part mentioned. Then we had to use the facilities. The toilet was not exactly clean. Turns out you have to wash the cabin before you leave, wich is fine, but noone checks the cabin between tennants. So then we had to clean up after others also before we could start our stay. And our stay was nice once these things were out of the way. We had a lovely time here. The cabin provided everything we needed to have a pleasant stay. But there is a very small warm water heater. So if three people shower back to back, you don' t have not water for anything else for hours. And you are encouraged to not use the wifi so much. But we are three grown people with online lives, so we used the internet as we usually do. Minus streaming that is. Still on our two last days, the WIFI was eventually so slow, that we had to turn it of and use our mobile data. At this time the internet could barely load comments on Snapchat, and barely load new emails.

My thoughts
It was nice and spacious. A lovely location. Issues - Firstly, we arrived to find dirty dishes, garbage still in the bathroom and overall not cleaned properly. This isn't an issue with the owner as they were responsive when we brought it up but still we had to clean. The dirty linens were left in the washer, which we understood would happen. We were expected to clean them, thats ok as we were leaving ours in the washer also. Our issue was we had no laundry detergent, on emailing the owners we were told to check the shed. There was none, the owner did not reply to that? Not sure what they expected us to do? We ultimately purchased detergent at our expense and washed the linens. This was not acceptable to us. We then determined the sink in the bathroom wasn't draining properly so again emailed the owners and asked them to have it fixed. Their response was "we can't come from Rekjavik on such short notice and there is drain cleaner in the shed pour some down the drain". The unit is less than 2hrs from Rekjavik and we were staying 4 nights? Not acceptable to us. Lastly the add stated that internet was included. Our booking was at the end of a month from the 25th to 29th. We had reasonable internet the first night then nothing. Turns out they had limits on the data and once they were reached you couldn't even send an email. The owners response was "if you need internet go to the hotel nearby or purchase a card for internet. Not acceptable to us. Thank you

LIEBEN DANK :-)

Tolles Haus in ruhiger Lage
