It is a budget hotel that is clean, comfortable - honestly, it exceeded my expectations, and you get great value for money here. The breakfast buffet was tasty. The hotel is about a 10 min walk from some restaurants and a supermarket. It is an easy walk next to a major road and some rice fields, but it is lacking in streetlights and can be very dark. It is about a 15-20 min walk from Echizen-Takefu station. The staff is friendly. They do not speak English, but this is expected - some attempt to engage in basic Japanese (and a translator app) will go a long way.
Plan ahead if you want to call a taxi - at check-out, I was told that the next available taxi would not be available for another 45 mins. As I had an appointment to keep, I ran to the info centre (which has very friendly staff) at the train station (~5 mins run?), where I was able to get a taxi to come in 10 mins.
