Sao Cha Liang, cool mushroom-shaped rock formations in Pha Taem National Park. Looking like something out of the old Road Runner cartoons, this area was filled with inspired artists trying to recreate them on canvas.

These can be found in other areas of Isan (such as in Mukdahan National Park a bit further north), but being able to also see ancient rock paintings and the first sunrise over Thailand make this park a great destination.

You ‘Wotif’ refused to help even though the manager was helping until he saw my booking was through you. "Very new hotel. Staff are unbelievable, best I have ever seen in Thailand. Not a complaint, but no bathroom as such, just sectioned out in the room. No lock on the toilet and shower. Breakfast was great, labels on everything, great for fussy eaters. Would totally recommend this hotel in Ubon."
