"The staff was very nice and very helpful. The views of the beach and ocean from the hotel and our room were amazing. Even though it was far away, we could see whales out in the ocean from our balcony! The beach was only a short walk away. The breakfast was great. The common spaces were really nice and comfortable. "Good spot for an overnight stay or if you don’t really need to prepare meals. Reason being, that there is no oven and the BBQ area is situated in the centre of other u it’s, so no privacy for anyone and impractical. Close enough to the seaside that you can walk, great fynbos area in front of unit. Very clean and a comfortable bed. Strong and hot water in shower. "

"The location of the property was beautiful! We watched right whales bask in the water infront of us. Enjoyed a hike on the cliffs overlooking the water. The property was worn and definitely needs updating. Even the pool was not looked after and was loaded with bugs so we didn’t use it. The kitchen and baths need updating. "Whale Rock Lodge is a lovely place. Very much a home away from home. Staff welcoming and efficient. We had a room in The Villa; a separate building to main house with it's own entrance and car park but only 30 steps to main building. The room and bathroom were large with fridge & tea/coffee making facilities. Good sized balcony with comfortable seating. The 2 pools - larger at main house and one at villa had plenty of sunbeams and other seating. Pleasant sitting rooms in both buildings. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast or buffet style continental. Cliff walk into town takes approx 40 minutes but too far out of town to walk for dinner. No Ubers and only a limited number of taxis in Hermanus."

"This is in the top 3 of the best value for money accommodation we've ever stayed in! Why? The location, the welcome, the room, the SUPERB breakfast, the local knowledge and advice, the electric bikes we hired. And in particular the way hosts Stefan and Nikki interacted with us and the other guests, somehow bringing us all together which enhanced the stay even more.We made some great contacts with people who had stayed at Penguino previously .... which speaks volumes in itself. Hermanus is a lovely, chilled-out place and when we go back we will be staying here again."
