Beautiful quiet retreat at Tom’s Casita. It was wonderful to watch the wildlife and especially the hummingbirds. If you are looking for a relaxing spot away from the business and activity of Santa Fe, this is it! Also very close to the wonderful Rancho de Chimayó Restaurant—a hidden northern New Mexico gem.
This property was perfect, quiet, away from noise and traffic, convenient to places we wanted to visit. it was a joy to come back in the evenings and sit outside and relax
This is a peaceful, lovely place to stay. Tom was so helpful as we figured out where to go and what to see. Wonderful library of local sites. Great location. Highly recommend!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great location, lots to see and do in the area or just stay and enjoy the setting, watching the ducks and geese on the pond. Tom was very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to go. Definitely would stay here again when in the area
The house, the pond, the garden with all the birds, are just terrific. Close to many beautiful places in NM

We had an enjoyable stay at Toms place. It was hard to find but it is a gem in it’s area.
We would like to return to this spot when the weather is a bit warmer and all the vegetation around the pond is greener. We were there in March.
We enjoyed the wildlife and the privacy.
retreat for honoring my husband who passed away. much needed peaceful spiritual retreat . casita provided RRR and mediation under GOD much needed. Very peaceful casita to relax and enjoy birds of all kinds (got bird watching book.. loved them so much)! Look forward to coming back !!

A Peaceful Getaway
We wanted a place that was a little bit away from it all and Paradise Pond was perfect. Jan and Tom were great hosts - friendly, welcoming, and very helpful with tips for touring the area. The pond provides a great backdrop for relaxing in both the morning and evening hours, and it is teaming with activity. It is so green and lush you almost forget you are in the high desert. If our travels take us to the Santa Fe area again, we would go back to Paradise Pond.
This was my second stay at Paradise Pond, and was even more enjoyable than the first. It's in a quiet setting with plenty of woodland to explore and lots of bird and wildlife activity on the pond, but just a quick hop to Santa Fe, and with easy access to Taos and Abiquiu/Ghost Ranch. The casita is spacious, well-equipped, and spotlessly clean. Tom is the perfect host, very friendly and always happy to make travel suggestions. There's also a nice library of maps, brochures, and books on the area that he shares with the guests. The best!

Opera fan
This cute casita was quiet and convenient to the Santa Fe Opera and other northern New Mexico attractions. The natural setting was a good respite after along days of tourist activities. I enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, listening to the frogs in the pond and viewing the sandstone bluffs over the cottonwoods. The rental was spotless and well supplied. Jan and Tom were excellent hosts. I would definitely return if I am in the area again.

Relax Refresh Recharge
My Husband and I found this little gem ! It really was paradise .... everything we needed was provided for. The views, amazing sunrise to sunset, the casita was cozy , comfortable and welcoming. Our hosts Tom and Jan awesome and very attentive to very detail. After six days we wanted to stay another month. Close by our visits to Ojo Caliente, Taos, Santa Fe , Los Alamos and Chimayo. Even a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner at Rancho Chimayo . Thank you for a great experience we will be back!!!! Margo and Patrick McCormick
The casita was bigger than expected & more secluded than expected. The one bedroom was king sized & roomy, more than just a bed. The bathroom was huge. The living room was set up so you could relax and look out over the pond. It was great seeing the beaver swim around at dusk, the frogs croaking & lots of birds- several hummingbirds flitted around. Nicely secluded so you didn't have traffic noise. No need for AC, the casita stayed nice & comfortable.
Tom provided a helpful list of restaurants & the breezeway is filled with maps & information for lots of activities & places to see. We had a wonderful time.
This casita is connected to the main house but you have privacy. The owner is helpful and pleasant. The view of the pond was fun - we saw ducks, geese, birds, beavers, and a turtle, even in February. This is a small local community with some charming areas to explore and reasonable distance to other nearby attractions. We drove the high road to Taos, the Enchanted Circle, and back to Chimayo via the low road. Other nearby places we visited were Bandolier National Monument, Los Alamos, and an evening in Santa Fe to hear local musicians. Chimayo has a famous church, the restaurant Rancho de Chimayo, and is known for weaving. Cell service is poor throughout this area, but the wifi at the casita worked very well for one of us to work remotely, and we used wifi calling with no issues. The best part of our stay was the beauty of the area and living/meeting local residents. We learned so much about the local Chimayo chiles, and the whole area.
I gave this a 4 rating only because we were sitting under the heat dome, and simply trusting in adobe to keep us cool was not enough. IT was great fun visiting with Tom and his neighbors, watching the beavers build the damn, listening to frogs, we even saw a blue heron - huming birds and tons of other birds - Beautiful spot. Ant ehe heat some is not the host's fault. I was just too hot by the end of our time there which is just what it is these days. For my own sake, in future I will make sure wherever I go there is air conditioning. The hot weather was unexpected and unprecedented,

Quiet, comfortable, peaceful. A little spot of paradise.
After the hustle and bustle of Santa Fe and Flagstaff it was so refreshing to kick back and recharge at this charming little casita located just north of Santa Fe. You can sit on the patio and watch the sun come up over the red rock hills while you observe the beavers and ducks in the pond. You are doing this while enjoying an espresso, from a coffee shop quality machine no less. Tom and Jan are great, personable and helpful. They have a lot of good tips to enjoy this quiet and historic area. Take advantage of that. El Rancho de Chimayo restaurant is a must stop. Great authentic Northern New Mexico food in a historic setting. Some of the dishes use a particular Chile that is grown by Tom and Jan's neighbor. Get that! Great location also. Ideally situated for a day trip up to Taos, just off the high road between Santa Fe and Taos. We were only there for three days, not enough. I would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend, just as I would not hesitate to stay there again.

quiet, private, super clean, comfortable and charming too!
Though it's a bit unnerving at first, we grew to like the long dirt road we needed to take to get to this lovely home. It is quiet back there, and we were surrounded by nature (I saw a beaver in the pond right outside our door!). We were completely happy with the hot shower, the big comfy bed, the decorating style, etc. We did not use the kitchen, but it would have been more than adequate if we did need one. The owners helped us at 9:30 at night when we arrived, tired and a bit lost, ,and grateful they answered the phone and helped us get back on track. There is a separate sunroom that adjoins the rental property and the owner's home, and in this room there is a table full of travel info, books and maps which were very useful. There is room to roam the property and yet it also has a cozy feeling to it. Wish we could have stayed longer and we would not hesitate a moment to stay there again, if we're in the area. P.S. He wished there was a T.V. She was thrilled there wasn't one!

great place to relax
Paradise Pond is the perfect place to get away from it all. The adobe rooms and furnishings are clean and comfortable. You have everything you need to have a relaxing vacation and the location can't be beat. There is no TV but the wireless internet worked fine and unlimited use of a land line phone is provided. The pond is just to the side of your patio. Get up early and you might see a beaver grooming himself on the bank as I did. The pond has ducks, huge bullfrogs, muskrats and beavers - it is mesmerizing. I went hiking, fishing and birdwatching.
Great birdwatching right on the property. There are black chinned hummingbirds right outside the window, swallows and swifts swooping over the pond and western bluebirds and western tanagers in the trees (to name just a few)
We went hiking at Bandelier National Monument (50 minutes away) where you get up close to and even inside of some ancient cliff dwellings. The bird watching there in the late afternoon was spectacular.
I caught a couple of trout at Santa Cruz Lake (20 minutes away) and had possibly the best Mexican food of my life at Rancho de Chimayo (get the red and green chile on the side, the first time to test the heat)
There are so many things to do in less than a hour's drive (Santa Fe, Taos, Bandelier etc) or you can walk down the street and go hiking on BLM land among beautiful red rock mesas. All in all a great place to have a perfect vacation.
What a pleasant surprise! The casita and the beautiful surrounding property created a peaceful atmosphere for our stay. We found everything we could possibly need and want for an exceptional experience. Tom and Jan are definitely super hosts. The highlight of our visit was all the wild life around the pond, especially the beavers. Most relaxing and peaceful!!!!
We spent 2 weeks in this beautiful casita! We were looking for quiet and off the beaten path and that is exactly what we found here. Tom's hospitality was way above par... even offering help when our train was 5 hours late arriving. This is the perfect spot for wildlife enthusiasts, birders, writers, and those needing a break from the world's chaos. The kitchen was well equipped and clean, the king-bed extremely comfortable and the wi-fi reliable. Chimayo is centrally located between Taos, Santa Fe and Espanola, making day trips to historic and cultural sites easy, but you will need a vehicle! All in all, a great experience.
