"Our stay was unique and our hosts were hospitable and warm. A family run ryokan. The kaiseki dinner was also aesthetically pleasing and delish! Our chalet was very private and set in the midst of the woods. It had a private bath and bedrock sauna that looked out into the maple trees and bamboo trees. Great for relaxing after climbing Mt Aso!"

"Staying at this place gives more of a farm stay or couchsurfing feel than a guesthouse, as they only seem to have one or a few rooms. The owners take good care of their guests and are very friendly, even though they speak close to no English. The food is delicious! There are multiple dogs and cats living on the property. The house is very old and the temperature inside is almost the same as outside. Beware, there is no heating in the guestrooms nor toilets and temperatures can easily fall down...

"We booked the hotel the day of the trip as we had change plans due to Typhoon Haishen. When we entrance to the hotel was blocked with a rope and they did not answer the phone. There was noone to get any information, we did not get a cancellation or a notification. "Very special property that we loved. We stayed in January and esp loved the onsen and subfloor heating. Check in was easy enough because there was the option of online pre-registration. The road to the house was windy but not too bad - note that the GPS in the rental car may not show you the way. We used Google maps and got there without difficulty. We were thankful to have a 4WD and snow tires, because there was ice on parts of the road. Highly recommend the place!"
