Home for the Holidays
We rented this home to have a space of our own at Christmas while back visiting family and friends. The pros: location, fenced in yard, radiant heat in part of the house, quiet - we slept great; washer/dryer, comfy living room; super attentive local host; security lights and cameras - we felt safe and secure; thoughtful welcome gift; new appliances in the kitchen; new bedding.The cons: the house isn’t finished - the part without radiant heat (including the second shower) is unheated so we closed off that part of the house. The bathrooms need renovation and a deep clean. The closets have barely functional doors and no storage for folded clothes. The kitchen has no ceramic dishes, glassware of any kind or quality cookware. The backsplash is a sticker and the hutch door fell off when I opened it. The coffee maker doesn’t work so we borrowed one from my parents. We were also looking forward to the fireplace but it didn’t work. Our host offered to send a repair person but they could only come the evening of the 23rd when we had friends for dinner so it never worked during our stay.The worst: This small home had 9 plug-in air fresheners! The perfume was overwhelming and unplugging them didn’t help because all the soft surfaces had absorbed the scent. We both left with irritated noses and throats. Bottom line: We were grateful for a quiet, mostly comfortable place to stay while back for the holidays. We were disappointed that it didn’t live up to what was advertised.
