The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, typically on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, however, we would recommend checking the exact date ahead of placing your booking. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates
The entrance lane turn is tight, so guests with a large vehicle may prefer to use the free public parking lay-by on the road nearby
Elm Bank has a lovely garden for guests to enjoy and it is important to the owners that guests are courteous and considerate towards the neighbouring properties. We politely request that guests do not disturb the neighbours and that noise is kept to a minimum after 22:30

Fabulous house for a family get together
We had a fabulous weekend with all of our family to celebrate my 65th birthday. Plenty of room and well equipped.

Beautiful stay nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds
We were exploring the cutest little town on our walk, and came upon the cottage that we were staying at on the walk! Centrically located to Stow on the Wold and the lower slaughter- couldn't have been more perfect for our large family. The grocery store was close by, and we loved getting eggs and ice-cream from the farm down the road. We had three small cars, and parking was a bit tight, but overall we enjoyed our stay! Would recommend!

Great place for a big group.
Well equipped and spacious Elm Bank was perfect for us. We were a group of 12 - three families with children of a range of ages. The house was big enough to accommodate us all. The garden was brilliant. There was plenty to do in the area. We had a fabulous weekend.

A wonderful place for a family gathering
11 of us met here to celebrate a 90th and 30th birthday. Elm Bank was very clean, spacious and well equipped and there was plenty of bathrooms for everyone. We had 4 cars between us and there was plenty of parking at the cottage ( a little tight for larger vehicles) and in the layby opposite. The cottage is well located for local walks and visiting nearby towns and villages. We had wonderful weather so were also able to enjoy the garden. A really lovely stay.

Family 65th Birthday
House was very comfortable and spacious. Location and views good. Plenty of crockery, utensils and facilities at the property and all very clean. Very happy with our stay. Only downside is driveway and parking a little tight for nervous drivers or big cars.

Great place for a family gathering
We were celebrating a 90th birthday. Accommodation was ideal for the 9 of us. Lovely to have a large dining room table that we could share leisurely meals together. Well equipped kitchen for providing even a 3 course meal. Enough comfortable seating for us all in the lounge area. Great to have the open fire on in the evening.

Lovely property, great location fir extended family
The property was extremely comfortable and well equipped to meet the needs of an extended family. The indoor spaces coupled with the garden meant it was ideal regardless of the weather. The location was ideal for exploring the Cotswolds and with Stow being 3 or 4 minutes drive, the lack of a djop in yhe village was not an issue. The house is across yhe Road from the Golden Ball pub which served great food. An ideal place for a relaxing family break.

2nd visit. Suits our needs with 3 young granchildren from opposite ends of the country.
The title says it all really. House is very comfortable, could do with a stair gate and it has a very pleasant garden. Beds and rooms comfortable and a good location for visiting places of interest for young children.

A very comfortable stay for a big family
We have a pleasant stay at Elm Bank. There was ample room for 8 adults and 3 kids. It's convenient located just outside of Stow on the Wold along a quiet road. We enjoyed using the BBQ and spending time in the garden. The house was very clean and well maintained. The property management team was also very responsive and replied to emails quickly.

Great Property, nearly excellent
Elm Bank is a beautiful cottage in a perfect location in Lower Swell. The listing is accurate, if anything the pictures do not quite show you how large the cottage is. We were more than comfortable as a group of six adults. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots and pans, the fridge is expansive, and there's plenty of storage for food and other necessities. The beds are comfortable and the temperature of the rooms really is quite manageable once you get the hang of it. The garden is great for kids to play in and there is easy access to the village and public spaces for walking. We encountered a few bugs, which the host does mention in the property guidebook on site, but probably more than there should be. There were a few places in the house we had to clean upon arrival, but nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected. Parking can be difficult for larger vehicles, though there are number of nearby options. A great place to stay, recommended!

Perfect weekend stay in spacious, comfortable house
Such a great weekend in a beautiful spot. We visited as a group of 12 for a 40th birthday gathering. Each couple had their own room and bathroom, and the kids made use of the additional rooms (the sofa room downstairs was also a separate room). Beds were really comfortable and all the rooms really homely. House is really well equipped, right down to personalised letter mugs!!! House was warm and we all felt at home right away. Plenty of carpets for the kids to run around on, they absolutely loved it. Would love to go back, one of the most comfortable, spacious places we’ve stayed.

Weekend in the Cotswolds
We had an absolutely magical weekend in the Cotswalds. The property is perfect and exactly as described. Check in and check out were effortless, and the host was immediately responsive, even though Europe was in the midstate Verizon data glitch. It’s a short, beautiful stroll to Stow-on-wald and we spent a spectacular afternoon trekking to Bourton-on-the-water. The property is literally across the street from the Lower Swell pub which had great food and was an oasis of quiet local culture in a busy holiday weekend. Our whole family from 11 to 56 loved it and we were so comfortable in the spacious house. The beds and bathrooms were fabulous, the kitchen well appointed, and plenty of space to flop down and read a book. Can’t say enough good things and we hope to be back one day!

Good space great for a family catch up but needed updating
It was a good size house, good location. There were a few cobwebs around where it hadn’t been cleaned. We felt the house interior and exterior was tired and needed updating.

Immaculate property, great communication and well stocked
This was the second time we've stayed at Elm Bank over Christmas as a family and we were not disappointed. The place was absolutely spotless and we had everything we needed in the kitchen and the rest of the house for a full Christmas dinner and social times. Having the two lounge areas is fantastic as it give space to move around but also has enough seats for everyone to be in the one room (front) if you want. The short walk up the hill to Stow makes for a good coffee-break and there are good running routes too. We went to see the Christmas lights at Sudely castle. We reported one issue with a shower which was responded to immediatley (though we said it was fine not to do anything there and then as it was Christmas eve and we had enough bathrooms). The owner left lots of goodies and the place was brilliantly decorated for Christmas.

Weekend escape
We had a lovely stay at Elm Back. The cottage was beautiful, very spacious and well kept. The kitchen was well stocked. There was milk, bread and butter when we arrived! The garden was a fantastic place to relax. Electric showers all worked well. The family bathroom water pressure was not great. The downstairs shower/ WC was new. The Neighbour was friendly and helpful. Stay Cotswold company had very good telephone service when I called to enquire about the key code. There is a futon in the downstairs study room which was very comfortable. The whole cottage was clean and well stocked. Highly recommended.

Lovely family weekend at Elm Bank
Elm Bank is a lovely spacious house in a beautiful setting and great for a family get together. StayCotswold were helpful and responded promptly to questions and with comprehensive information re the house, parking etc. The house was well equipped and had everything we needed. The bedrooms were spacious. The beds were comfortable except the futon in the morning room which was reportedly uncomfortable. The outside space was great, well equipped and well used as it was a beautifully sunny weekend. It was great to have the BBQ which we used one afternoon. We had an Indian takeaway one evening, which was delicious (The Prince of India in Stow on the Wold). We all thought it was one of the the best Indian takeaways we'd had and highly recommend it. We had a problem with two of the bathrooms as there was a blocked drain, however Amy had a drainage service sent out on the Sunday morning and the problem was resolved. It was blocked by old baby wipes despite signs in all the bathrooms asking people not to do this! Overall we had a great 3 night stay in a lovely house in a beautiful area and would recommend it to families and groups of friends.

Elm Bank Booking August 2024
The property was booked for a special family occasion and chosen specifically for quality, number of beds and location. The experience was excellent on all counts. The house was clean and well stocked. It was comfortable for all guests and in a perfect location for enjoying the local area. I was given a lot of assistance in the lead up to the visit which was very helpful.

Comment on ground floor layout
The house was really clean and well appointed, with a very well equipped kitchen. Our only criticism was the location of the dining table, a long way from the kitchen. We ate in the kitchen, but it was a bit crowded. There were two reception rooms we didn’t use. The house would work much better if the kitchen and room next door were made into one large kitchen with a bigger dining table.
