Wonderful Villa Near Chania
We loved our stay at Villa Mariposa. The villa is just on the outskirts of Chania and is everything it is advertised to be in the listing. We were far enough from town to relax by the pool and enjoy the view but still close enough to go in fto explore or have or dinner almost every night. Communication with the owners was easy and the villa has everything anyone would need if you want to stay in and cook too. There were several beaches nearby that we visited regularly and we took several day trips to other parts of western Crete. All in all could not have asked for anything more. Hope to come back for a longer visit next time.

Beautiful, luxurious house. We stayed for 7 days. Very clean, well maintained. We enjoyed the pool, the kitchen was fully equipped. Our hosts stocked the pantry & fridge with welcome items. It was very kind of them. Very close to Hania downtown, supermarket. Our hosts recommended restaurants, day trips, they were very helpful! Would go there again in a heartbeat! ❤️❤️

Chania vacation
The property was fantastic. We spent almost as much time at the pool with a view than the great beaches. Diana, the owner, was more than helpful with anything we needed. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Chania. Driving in Chania was tough but parking in Chania is even more challenging if you are driving a small van. We really like Stavros, Parili Kalatha and Paltanis beach were great. We really enjoyed KouKouVaya for deserts.

Amazing villa - pictures don't do it justice. Bit of a long walk to town, so maybe a hire car would have been good. Diana was an excellent host, and really helpful throughout the week. We had the best time!

A few spring days in Crete
The property is wonderful and the hosts are exceptional. The basket of fruit, fresh-baked bread and property-harvested olive oil were a wonderful touch. I wish the pool was heated. The views are outstanding, the beds quite comfortable, and the kitchen well-stocked with equipment. Would definitely recommend to a large family or two.

Lovely house overlooking the sea
The house was perhaps the best part of our trip to Crete. It’s is in a great spot overlooking the bay. Quiet (apart from the cicadas) and comfortable. And close to everything you’ll need for a great family vacation There are a few things worth noting. Whilst very close to Chania the house is quite rural and this means there’s a lot of winged nature about. The cicadas can be deafening and territorial. This wasn’t an issue for us but if you’re afraid of bugs, take note! There’s an owners apartment under the house and you share a driveway. Again this wasn’t an issue for us. Diana’s parents keep to themselves but we’re also very helpful - her dad even brought us some tomatoes. They have a friendly dog, but neither imposed on us at any time

What an amazing week!
We had a fantastic week at Villa Mariposa! The house is beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable. The villa is 5km outside of downtown Chania. A perfect location for us! The villa is just out of town on a hill with an amazing view and lovely breeze. We spent our mornings having coffee on the comfy outdoor couch enjoying the spectacular view. And our evenings after a swim and dinner, on that couch with drinks - gorgeous! Don’t miss Diana’s many wonderful recommendations. Diana and her mother were terrific hosts! Diana was available to answer questions and provide recommendations. Her mother met us at the villa for a tour and left us with a stunning lemon brush cake and homemade orange jam from their garden. For Father’s Day, Diana arranged a caterer to cook an authentic Creatan meal - it was fantastic! What a treat! Don’t miss Mitsos for BBQ and Carte Postale for a lovely drink at sunset. And the beaches along the “peninsula”. The beach/cove at Zorba’s is a bit touristy, but there is beach restaurant service. Go during the week for a quieter experience. My husband and son loved swimming there. And my son’s hike to the cave was a highlight. Don’t miss the Chania Archeological Museum and Old Town Chania. I hope to return to Chania. If so, we would love to stay at Villa Mariposa! What an amazing week! Thank you Diana!

Fantastic Villa with a view
Villa Mariposa provided everything we were looking for. Luxurious and immaculately clean villa, beautifully tended gardens, a pool big enough to swim in and the most amazing views from its hilltop position. Shops and bakery/cafe 10 minutes down the hill and Chania a short drive away. We hired a car via Stratos and Diana from the lovely Eirini at "Drive-it" and found the island easy to explore. Highly recommended and hope to come back.

Beautiful villa and views with very comfortable beds!
We spent a week here July/Aug as a family of 5 (kids 6, 8 and 9). The villa was perfect - easy location for getting into Chania and to a few local beaches. My biggest fear when renting homes is that the beds will be too small and not comfortable (I’m very picky!) but the beds were great! My only request if I stayed again would be more pool towels as one each is a bit hard to manage. Thank you for a perfect holiday!

Stunning property! Wonderful hospitality!
We have just returned from an amazing trip to Crete. Thanks to Diana & Stratos! The villa is even better in person than the pictures portray. Diana’s mother spoiled us from the first day we arrived with cakes, and traditional Greek dishes. We wish we could have brought her home with us. The views from the villa will take your breath away. If there is anything you have questions about, Diana was there to answer. She helped arrange a trip to the Samaria Gorge (challenging but worth it). The last day we were leaving for the airport early in the morning, Diana made a point to wish us farewell. When we arrived at the airport she had called to let me know that one of my sons had forgot his retainer in his bedroom. I had already returned the rental car, so I asked her to mail it, if she wouldn’t mind. She instead drove to the airport to return it to us. If you want a little piece of Greek perfection, then stay here and you will have it!!! Ken P Canada

Incredible house and hosts
From the moment we drove up the driveway to this incredible villa, we were in love. Everything about our stay was perfect. Even prior to our arrival, Diana was so helpful with answering questions such as whether to rent a car (we did), where to charter a boat (Creta Luxury Cruises was top-notch), and coordinating a chef to cook for us. She greeted us in the driveway, and proceeded to give us a tour of this magnificent home. The pictures are amazing, and there was no disappointment. She made us a delicious cake, presented us with homemade olive oil (from their trees on the property), homemade orange marmalade, honey, cookies and stocked the refrigerator and cabinets with eggs, cheese, meat, milk, juice, cereal, bread and fruit. It was unexpected and so perfect, as we didn't have to think about breakfast the next morning. The home is impeccable, and the maid, Sophie, came every other day, which was perfect. We were treated as if we were staying at a 5 star resort. Everything was so professionally presented, from the embroidered linens and towels to the guidebook of recommendations for things to do. The view is breathtaking, the outside is peaceful, and the gardens are so meticulously cared for. The house and patios are adorned with fresh flowers and plants. The kitchen has everything you need and the house was a perfect size for our two families. The location is ideal. It was a short 7-8 minute drive into the center of Chania. We loved everything about the city, and the island. There are 2 markets about a 1 minute drive from the villa, where you can find all of the necessities. Having Villa Mariposa as our home for the week was perfect. Diana is the sweetest person and was always so responsive, professional and helpful during our stay. We would highly recommend this property for so many reasons.

Stunning Villa and Views
We have just returned from Villa Mariposa and i can not recommend this villa enough. It was amazing waking up to the most beautiful views and watching the sunset go down every night. As soon as we arrived and were greeted by Diana and her mum who were lovely, there was a home made cake waiting and lots of goodies to last us until we could do a big shop. Mum was such a sweet lady who made us cakes and goodies which were delicious. Diana was always on hand to help with anything we were struggling with, even ordering us some food one night as the take away didn't speak very good English. There is a small shop at the bottom of the road for your essentials and a lovely little bakery which we often visited. I do have to mention Sophie the housekeeper who was fantastic providing us with fresh flowers, she even put my washing out one day for me while we were out. I have never seen a villa so clean after she had cleaned it. Not that it stayed clean for long not with my grown up children. I would recommend a car but the taxis to Chania are quite reasonable 10euros each way. The pictures really don't do the villa justice as it was the most amazing villa that we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at a few in the past few years. Big Thank you and lots of love to Diana, Stratos, mum and Sophie.

Perfect, perfect and perfect
We are so thankful for the hospitality that were presented to us during our stay. Diana and her mother has been a huge help during our 3 days. This is the best experience I have had even better than hotels! The place It’s the type of place you have to see in person to believe in the beauty of it. Pictures does not do justice. Plenty of room around the house for our group of 7. We have literally everything we needed to cook our own meal and you have to see the view of sunrise and sunset from the balcony. The location: We were pretty close to chania so we were able to ride bicycles around the city, there are many beautiful sites to see around the area. Thank you for such a great experience!

What a wonderful surprise!
Not enough praise would be sufficient to qualify our stay at Villa Mariposa! The place is magnificent, the views are fantastic and best of all, the house, the garden and the swimming-pool are kept immaculate at all times! Stratos and his mother are the best hosts I’ve ever encounter and since we’re very frequent travelers, I feel that I know what I’m talking about! I highly recommend visiting Chania and Villa Mariposa will add substantially to your trip in more ways than one! If I ever go back to Greece this place will be in my priority list! Beautiful villa full of wonderful extras
This villa is as wonderful as all the photos suggest. We had two couples staying at the villa. We choose it because they had two king size beds (American king size beds), which was very hard to find. They could have put the two twins in the third bedroom together to make a third king. The bedrooms all have their own bathrooms with tubs with handheld showers. Taking a shower without covering the entire floor in water is difficult, but the tubs very comfortable and luxurious. We ended up taking baths almost every day. For those of you wondering from the photos, yes, there is a round bed. My friends who stayed in that room tell me it gives you plenty of space for two and, no, you don't fall out. Because it was a fairly rainy week, we used every room in the house, every sitting area outside and almost every implement in the kitchen. Every part of the house is comfortable, beautiful, has great views, and lovely design and art works. If they ever put a railing on their second floor deck, you would have a 360 degree view of the Chania area. As it was, we had great views from the existing decks and porches. There is a washer but no dryer, which is common in Europe; this was a problem because it was a rainy week and we had chosen to stay in a house instead of a hotel so we could do our laundry. Also, they should post instructions on how to turn on the hot water in the house and label the switches. We had to go without hot water our first night. Many houses have the instant hot water heaters which you need to turn on and off every time you shower. Their's is not an instant heater; you have to turn it on well before and remember to turn it off afterwards. The house is well located on a hilltop about 12 minutes from Old Chania, 15 minutes to the airport, and 15 minutes to the highway. The neighborhood was quiet at night with only barking dogs, solved by closing the windows and sliding doors. I think the best part of the rental experience was that they provided us oil olive, honey, and divine homemade orange jam (best I ever had) from their property. They also left enough food in the kitchen for the first morning's breakfast. Someone came in every day to put out the pool cushions, water plants, etc. We never used the pool because it was cold and rainy that week. A maid came every other day to clean the inside of the house. We all loved the house and highly recommend it for up to 6 people.

Lovely Villa and views....however
As with other reviews there is no question that the Villa is lovely, however I do think there are a couple of things renters should be aware of. Firstly, you are renting the top 2 floors of a 3 floor residence. Yes, the owners family who live downstairs are discreet, but nonetheless they are resident on the property while you are staying, and there is plenty of 'coming and going' of people and vehicles as a result throughout the day. An example of this is that there is a remote to open and close the gates, one early evening we went out leaving the gates open, expecting them to still to be open on our return, but they were closed, so having forgotten the remote we had to scale the walls to get in. I am not knocking the quality of the Villa, and the views are great, however it depends how you value your privacy, and I did feel a little uneasy and less relaxed with 2 residences occupied by the family in the floor below the Villa.
