"We stayed for one night in chalet no.1 and loved it. The property is well appointed and pretty isolated with a lovely outlook over the Gulf of Nicoya. Being close to the River Tárcoles and Carara NP, there is plenty of wildlife and we saw scarlet macaws flying overhead in the evening. Laura met us at the entrance and showed us round our chalet which was clean and quite luxurious with two large beds, kitchenette, large bathroom with pleasant, natural views yet private and secluded, and a patio fully across the front and side with a clean, cooling plunge pool, loungers, tables and chairs. Other reviews have criticised lack of cleanliness, hot water and reliable wi-fi but we had no problem with any of these. Because there are only a handful of chalets here, there is no bar, café or restaurant nearby so we self-catered, though there's a variety of options in Tárcoles (a short drive away) most of which offer online ordering and delivery. The location is fairly quiet, but traffic on the main coast road can be heard during the day at varying levels of intensity. Akua Suites was the perfect final night for our Costa Rican tour. We got up early for a 2-hour birdwatching tour in Carara Park but we still had time afterwards to get a reasonably priced breakfast at the Crocodile Bridge and return to pack up before leaving the property shortly after 11am. "

"My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our way out of SJO traveling west for 1 night. Important things we were looking for: secure parking, breakfast included, air conditioning, WiFi, easy access from the highway. Senor Herrera was very accommodating and kind. He showed us his available rooms and let us choose between them. The rooms were clean and the hotel grounds was well manicured. There was a pool that was available, which we didn't use but others did--it looked clean and well maintained. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel before continuing on our travels, which was very convenient. There are several grocery stores and a market within walking distance from the hotel. There is a futbol arena next door and a bar across the street, but they quieted down at a decent hour. The hotel is well secured and we felt like our vehicle was safe behind the locked courtyard gate. Overall, would stay here again for sure. It was the perfect place for us, meeting our needs, and well exceeded our expectations for the price."

"We had a very relaxing and enjoyable 3 weeks at Casa Mango in Chacarita, Puntarenas in Feb 2025, we wanted a small local place to see wildlife , relax and enjoy the climate and culture that is Costa Rica.The small private home is located on an estuary and we enjoyed watching the tide changes ,it was interesting with all the different types of birds and local fishing boats .We spent a lot of time on the shaded porch , usually we had a nice breeze, reading and dining, and just watching the variety of birds . We also went to the beach in Puntarenas a few times and some beautiful waterfalls near by called Encantado.The air conditioned house was newly upgraded, very clean, has two good size bedrooms with ensuites and comfortable beds .There is also a well stocked functional kitchen with lots of plants and shade outside.The private pool was perfect, the sun shelter added shade in the afternoons.Josh and Mari were excellent hosts, very friendly and very responsive if we had a questions or needed anything, and very helpful at all times.We really enjoyed getting to know them and their dogs, Canella and Mocha! Josh was doing maintenance on his boat while we were there so we will do Isla Tortuga next time! We also met several very nice and interesting travellers who stopped at the adjacent camping area! Overall, we had a great time , one of our most relaxing vacations ever and look forward to returning for another visit in the future !"
