Enchanted Tree House experience with all the comforts!

Tree houses have something to say. They speak in an ancient language, and the message is universal: climb up and be in harmony with Nature.
Let go of earthbound encumbrances and be free. You may not be young enough any more to climb a tree, branch by perilous branch, but so what?
The important thing is being in the tree not how you get up in it. (Peter Nelson and Garry Hadden).

A unique experience, living in a giant rubber tree, nestled in its branches, with nature all around you. Fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle and wake up in luxury. Topo's Tree House has 2 decks, with an extra 3rd little deck to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening cocktail while looking out into the jungle's tree tops and flora. You might even share this moment with a passing sloth!
The 1st floor has a beautiful tropical wood deck, with carved posts and one side which is completely a wall of the giant tree's roots, creating a mosaic of shapes, twists and turns. There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, bathroom and terrace over-looking the tropical pond with its orchids and lilies. Relax in the hammock while watching parrots, hummingbirds and toucans as they fly by.
On the 2nd deck, there is a another living room on the open air terraced with a spectacular view looking over the canopy of trees and plants. The 2 bedrooms are adjacent to the living room, each with its own window opening out into the tree's branches. The main bedroom has a 4 poster-bed with a full Queen orthopaedic mattress, lots of pillows and a mosquito net draping over it, lamps and a security safe box. The other bedroom has 2 twin beds with mosquito nets and lamps. A large bathroom with 2 sinks, a full shower with glass doors, elegant tiles and beautiful hardwood cabinets.
The 3rd deck has its private little terrace with iron wrought chairs and table , feel completely enveloped in the trees living branches with hanging orchids.
On the 1st floor, an outside shower is found in between the trees roots.
Comforts are found everywhere, from the hot running water, fully equipped kitchen, wireless Internet, flat screen Satellite TV, outdoor BBQ, to a big fridge.
The large tropical gardens have been landscaped for years but retain their natural attraction. They have been nourished to be the home for different species of birds, poison dart frogs (harmless to humans by the way!), inviting sloths monkeys and butterflies. The tropical gardens are a home to much of the local wildlife. Little ponds for fish and turtles, bromeliads for frogs and flowers for butterflies. Stroll through this magical garden, truly a little Garden of Eden.
At only 200 mt. down the little sand road lies the beach of Playa Negra. A well known beach for surfers. The coconut trees, the beach, the surfers, swimmers and the famous 'Reggae Bar' make it a great place to relax and enjoy life. Sit on the open air terrace of 'Reggae Bar' over-looking the beach, feel the breeze as it moves through the palm leaves, enjoy a Pina Colada and the local dish of Coconut Chicken with Rice & Beans or a fresh Redsnapper grilled on the BBQ. Friday nights are 'Live Music' dance and move to the vibes of Reggae, Calypso and Blues. For the younger generation hit the town! The streets are full of locals and tourists dancing and having fun to the music of Reggae Dancehall.

Perfect place for a family vacation - for our August stay
We absolutely loved our stay at Topo's treehouse. We are a family of four who stayed here in August 2017 with our two nature- loving kids, ages 9 and 11. We had rented a car and drove from San Juan - though we were happy to find that we could walk to most places. For example, we walked to Tree of Live (~20 min walk), which has a very interested tour. And just a 2-minute walk away is Centro Turistico Brigitte - which has a restaurant where had a fabulous breakfast, and where we took two tours: the Chocolate tour (visiting a BriBri family, making our own hot chocolate, and then swimming in a waterfall ), and the jungle + beach horseback riding tour. Also, we took the Tarantulas WayTour with Chris - a night walk in the jungle with a very knowledgable and interesting guide. We also visited and loved the Sloth Sanctuary - an easy drive away. More walkable is the local National Park (which you can enter from downtown Cahuita) - also amazing. Of course, staying in the treehouse is an adventure in itself and some parts of each day, we enjoyed just being there. Topo's friendly dog would sometimes stop by, and Topo gave us a tour of his garden, and that was truly lovely, too. I had been nervous about reading that the Caribbean side was "mosquito coach" - especially with the Zika virus outbreak - and though we had prepared thoroughly for that, I was pleasantly surprised to not find that a problem at all. Maybe the poison dart frogs make the treehouse especially OK for that? I think it was good we went in August - low season - as it never felt crowded and we could do nearly all tours and things we wanted to do (except when we couldn't get into "Sobre Las Olas" seaside restaurant one Monday night without a reservation!), we loved the laid back vibe of Cahuita, and the treehouse was an absolutely wonderful place to stay.

We stayed from January 7th to January 14th 2023. The tree house is beautiful! The setting is ideal, you are surrounded by jungle and you can hear the waves at night. The animals came to us! On the first day, we saw sloth (in the treehouse tree), lesser capiberra, toucan, silver monkey, howler monkey, large iguana, and BATS (they live in the treehouse with you). Topo informed me the the drive from San Jose was too long for the time we arrived (10pm) and advised us to stay the night in San jose. I attempted to make the reservation change several weeks prior and he rejected to change stating it was too late (Vbro policy states otherwise). When we arrive, Topo was clearly annoyed that we did not arrive on Saturday..... Topo gave us a tour of the beautiful treehouse and in that tour it was discovered that several lights did not work, and there was an electrical short in the bathroom light. Topo also pointed out that he needs to install anti slip tape on the stairs because they are slippery when dry and get wet when it rains ( yes my wfe and I both slipped but no injury) Topo stated that he needed to fix them but never did. After he left, we noticed that there were mice droppings in many locations. The main areas of the treehouse are open to the jungle. You need to realize this prior to staying incase you are not comfortable with bats, lizards, mice, cockroaches, etc. I fell thru the floor due to poor construction and maintenance.

Mixed feelings
Our family of four (Mom, Dad, girls 10 & 13) stayed here four nights in late March. First, I will agree with many reviews I had read that living in a tree house is a unique fun experience. There were three sloths living in the tree which we really enjoyed. Also a family of bats and many other critters, poison dart frogs, large bugs, and geckos came to visit. Topo's dog Shaila was also a friendly welcomed visitor every morning. Topo provided a welcome pack of juices, fruit, and a couple of beers. That was nice. However, there were some things we wish were different and better. There was only one kitchen towel provided, which can be a problem when laundry doesn't dry because of the humidity. We had to use some of the beach towels provided to get by. The was no can opener. The knives provided were extremely dull. There was a sharpening steel, but it didn't have an edge so couldn’t sharpen anything. And no extra paper products. There were two partial rolls of toilet paper when we arrived, one per bathroom, but after that we were told we had to supply our own. Another thing that made us question the overall value is the condition of the unit. Mostly, the tree house is in great shape. However, some of the floor boards on the first floor need to be repaired or replaced due to rot. It’s an open environment so water is going to enter the structure, but it should also be maintained. There was a lot of flex to certain areas of the first floor and the wood walk way leading to the tree house, that made us feel uneasy. We knew we were paying a premium to stay at such a unique place, and it is unique and the location is good, but the lack of basic necessities and lack of maintenance made us feel that the value wasn’t there.

Fantastico!
Topo’s treehouse is one to not miss !When you go in it is like entering into a fairytale! The detail that went into this is truly amazing .The bedrooms were very cool with AC units ,and even the outdoor spaces were comfortable and not at all buggy like you may think it would be since it is outdoors. The hammocks were a great place to relax in the treehouse also. The property is absolutely gorgeous and a short walk to the beach and Reggae bar.Topo could not have been any more kind ,helpful .and friendly. I highly recommend Topo’s treehouse adventure !

A rainforest experience, mere steps from a beautiful beach
Wake up refreshed to the calls of birds. Watch toucans in the trees off your deck. Spot the agouti while relaxing in a hammock. Witness the daily routines of the friendly fruit bat family. Take a short walk to the soft sand beach and the Reggae Bar. See sloths in the trees near town. Walk or drive less than a mile to the unforgettable Cahuita Natl Park, with its own beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife. Eat in town at Restaurante Pizzeria Cahuita, with its beautiful seaside deck. If you're ok with a natural experience and some creepy crawlies (e.g. cockroaches in the bedrooms in the evening) then you will be rewarded with an authentic and unforgettable Costa Rican getaway. Don't forget the binoculars!

Magical treehouse
I have rented 3 separate treehouses and this is the only one that is truly in a tree! The house itself is better than what is listed and the property is amazing. Great location to do everything or nothing. Topos was so helpful in assisting us with everything from surf lessons to fixing a flat tire. Thank you for a very memorable stay, we will return!

What an experience of a lifetime! Literally in the jungle with open views and new things to be seen everyday. Topo is an amazing host and very accommodating. After a long day of travel we had water fruits and imperial (Costa rican beer) waiting for us. Bring bug spray and be prepared to embark on memories that will last a lifetime! Pura Vida!

True adventure!
Most unique place we've ever stayed, our children loved it too! Topo (owner) was most welcoming and the place is actually well finished and more comfortable than you'd expect for living basically outdoors (bedrooms are closed up which is wise). Tons of wildlife around- lizards, resident sloth, dozens of howler monkeys and a family of bats living in the "hallway"- we'd walk quietly past them to the bathroom so as not to disturb them. Brigitte's next door is great for breakfast and the reggae bar has awesome food in ridiculously large portions. Well worth the experience.

Unique and great for families!
We stayed here for 4 nights and loved all our time there. You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle with the sounds at night and nothing beats seeing a sloth or howler monkey right outside your window. Great collection of little critters for the kids to see everyday. Location is within walking distance to the beach and some restaurants, while only being a short drive to even more selections in Puerto Viejo. Topo met us on arrival, showed us around the house, and even had a few drinks in the fridge for the kids and I! Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic Adventure!
We stayed at the treehouse for 3 days and my family cannot say enough about how great an adventure it was to be able to experience what Topo has created. The pictures do not do it justice, as this is something that needs to be experienced! Topo is a great host, taking the time to even walk around with my kids and I at night around the property to show us the the variety of frogs around the tree. We spent 11 days in Costa Rica and Topo's Treehouse was one of the biggest highlights of our trip. Don't pass this up if you are in the Puerto Viejo area!

Look at the pictures! You have to stay here!
As advertised, this is a completely modern "Treehouse" including wifi and appliances! I have never stayed any place like it and had a wonderful time. We also stayed in Arenal and Manuel Antonio during our trip and if nature is your thing, the Caribbean side has a leg up. The drive out is long and requires patience, but once you get here, wow! Poison dart frogs hop around the base of the tree (you can pick them up), there are turtles in the pond, and a sloth and howler monkeys hang out in the tree. The monkeys were barking in the distance the first night we were there so my family barked back loudly. The next morning, we went out to the observation deck and they were all there staring at us! I think we took 100 pictures of the monkeys during our stay! Topo is just the type of guy you would expect to build an awesome treehouse and as it happens, part of his career was spent as an expert on reptiles and amphibians and he knew where to find all the colorful tree frogs on the property for my son and daughter! The waves are choppier on this coast (sometimes not swimmable) and the water was not Caribbean blue but the beach, within walking distance, was still very pleasant, soft, and walkable. Cahuita is more rural than Arenal and Manuel Antonio and the population is definitely younger but there are plenty of places to grab a bite or drink. The area is very charming and entertaining with lots of beachside places to check out. Make sure to get a private tour of the Jaguar Rescue Center (they don't have jaguars, but they have baby sloths which are surprisingly energetic) and arrange for a night tour of the rainforest through them as well. We had a wonderful time!

Reward yourself, Stay here
The price at first almost scared me away, but when I thought about it a little more I just went for it. So glad I did too! It was an awesome experience, unique and you can really see the hard work Topo put into the design and construction. Has a great kitchen but I spent most of my time on the second floor, in the hammock watching lizards do their thing in and out of the crevasses of the massive rubber tree. And also, the small upper lookout was a great place to sit for hours with a drink and my girlfriend, of course. We only wished we could've stayed here longer! Also, special thanks to Topo and his Guard dogs(they were friendly big pups) for their hospitality.!

Fantasy retreat for nature lovers!
Where do I begin....... We had the pleasure of visiting Topo's Paradise. Topo greeted us in the wee hours of the Morning at the a very private entry way. While walking up to the Tree House we were all in AWE!!!! Pictures posted here will excite you, but the reality of it all, will find you breathless! Arrived a bit hungry, as no time for breakfast, but Topo Had the best fresh bananas and pineapple in the fridge. Along with two Imperial beers which made my Hubby happy after a very long day of travel. He then took us of a tour of the house, OMG, I didn't want to ever leave. So clean and every amenity needed if you wanted to stay inside the Tree House for your own meals. We only did this one day as all the local restaurants sounded so great and WERE. Loved the Reggae Bar food, drink and staff. It is a short walk or Taxi Ride into town with Jorge. Shout out to Topo he will get him to pick you up within 5 minutes and OMG such a Sweet Gentlemen, Truthfully every "Tico" we met in Costa Rica were so friendly! The national park is nearby and was absolutely beautiful! Truthfully, we could have done nothing but stay in the tree house and experience all the wildlife around us. We had a troupe of Howler monkeys camped out in OUR tree! I don't think the sloth liked them. She stayed tucked up while they were swinging around and making a racket.Birds, iguanas, the flora, and the Poison Dart frogs, amazing!. Topo surely has made this a fantasy retreat for nature lovers. What an up close and personal wildlife experience! We are certainly going back to Topos REAL SOON

Paradise Found
My Husband and I enjoyed a wonderful 3 week vacation to Costa Rica. This was our second visit to the Beautiful country, however our first time traveling to the carribean vicinity. Topo's Treehouse was a major highlight of our trip. We stayed Sept.28th-Oct.3rd. The Treehouse has a very unique, welcoming ambiance, set in a peaceful enviroment. within just a quick walk to the beach,Bridgettes Cafe,The Reggage Bar,and a small convenient store. A little further is the cute town area of Cahuita. But we mostly just enjoyed relaxing around the Treehouse. We saw more up close wildlife, than any other location that we have ever stayed. On arrival we were welcomed by Howler Monkeys, and a Three toed Mama Sloth, just outside the Tree window/opening,within 3-4 feet distance! My husband had the luck of capturing photos of the baby, when it was out from being tucked under Mama. Later in the week saw a Two Toed Sloth climbing by the window.Truly an Amazing experience! Also there is a beautiful fish/frog pond...saw green dart frogs,Red Treefrogs and more! Many great photo opportunities. Topo's Hospitality was Wonderful! He is very friendly and helpful. The first day we were tired from traveling. He helped us to order a very good pizza to be delivered(which we had more than once during our stay). Also reccommended the Restaurant Sobre Las Olas. Dined there our final night, the food was Delicious, and the location by the beach is Beautiful! We feel very fortunate to have found this Tree house paradise...and know where we will stay when we return. .... ~ Pura Vida ~ Kerin & John Haueisen Navarre Fl.

Trip and Tree of a Lifetime
To begin, writing a review for Topo’s Tree House is difficult quite simply because the incredible experiences that my girlfriend and me had while staying at the tree house for five days are nearly impossible to put into words. For anyone even remotely considering trekking to Cahuita and lodging at the tree house: DO IT. No matter how many photos you see, virtual tours you take, and gushing reviews you read, your stay at Topo’s Treehouse, and the proprietor Topo, will exceed even the highest expectations. The house is literally a part of the giant tree, and is alive, well, and the perfect place to call home while in Costa Rica. Concerning the tree house itself, the place has an almost magical vibe that runs throughout the property. While this statement may sound cheesy, the isolation, cleanliness, various areas for sitting and talking, symphony of sounds, the well-working amenities, hammocks, vegetation, wildlife (we saw frogs and a sloth with her baby), and sturdy structure of the unique house all work together to harbor a space for relaxation, one to which we will always feel connected. Everything is fully furnished and equipped with plenty of towels, pillows, blankets, soap, cutlery, etc., and the house has everything needed for cooking; Topo, staying at the guest house out back just a stone’s throw away, is just a holler away if we did need anything or had questions. We even had a few cold beers in our fridge! The beach, bars, restaurants, and a breakfast places are within immediate walking distance (maybe four minutes walking to the beach with everything else in between). While simply staying at the tree house made our trip an unforgettable experience, Topo’s courtesy, generosity, and helpfulness elevated our trip to a higher level. He showed us around town, gave us recommendations for the best prices on virtually everything to do (canopy tours, beaches, bars, grocery, horseback riding, surfing), had an occasional drink with us, and was never intrusive whatsoever. He truly cared about our stay and his relaxed and infectious demeanor quickly rubbed off on us. In fact, we had such a great time at the tree house and in Cahuita in general, we decided to extend our stay for a couple more days, and among our many journeys in Costa Rica, staying at the tree house is our favorite memory. If this review comes off as overzealous, I’d respond by saying that it is almost impossible to articulate how special this place and Topo are.

Unforgettable Experience!
I recently went to Costa Rica with two close friends and we had the most amazing time staying in the tree house. "Topo", the owner, is one of the most amazingly friendly and generous people. He welcomed us with warm hugs, stocked our fridge with amazing fruit and beer, and helped us get the most out of our experience in Cahuita. The tree house is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. It has all of the comforts of a modern home, yet you feel incredibly close to nature. We even saw a sloth while on the back porch! Both Topo and the Tree House are one-of-a-kind.

Tree House on the Carribbean
The Tree House was all we were hoping for. It was fun, clean, genuine and highly original. It kicked off our vacation in Costa Rica with grand style for our two daughters and us. The reviews, comments, and pictures we read on the Tree House are all true to form. We had the best of both worlds - the beach and the jungle - all within the safe and private confine of the owner’s property who took pleasure at being our host. What we are most impressed with is the artistry of this home. The house is part trees and part man build. It is a two floor wooden structure, built in a manner that respects the local ecosystem. One side of the house (kitchen, dinning and living areas) is open meaning there are virtually no walls to separate you from nature aside from banisters, posts and beams. Exception is made with the bedrooms which are designed for comfort and privacy. A subtle lighting system artistically enhances the tree trunks and cavities that make up one of the house’s sides creating a gigantic 3D natural art work. Finally the house is well appointed with all you need to cook and refresh yourself. My personal favourite was the offering of fresh, perfectly ripe local fruits which were offered as a welcoming touch. Cahuita is a community full of character and unaffected by massive tourist development. The beaches are accessible in numerous places and the water is clear, warm and inviting. The national park is a wonder with amazing jungle trails and unspoiled white sand beaches that span for kilometres. We saw and heard plenty of wildlife, explored the local reef while snorkelling, guided by a bright young guide. The local fare is also good. I recommend the Tree House for those who want to spice up their vacation and get away from the usual commercial or standard accommodation. Costa Rica’s nature is what we were hoping to experience and our stay at the Tree House fulfilled this dream. Thank you Topo for being our host, and Terry for arranging our stay.

Best Treehouse!
Topo's Treehouse is amazing! It's super spacious with modern kitchen appliances and modern bathrooms. Super comfortable too. Great location, we could walk into Cahuita, bike into Puerto Viejo and walk to the beach. Topo was more than hospitable and accommodating and just a great guy to talk to and hear his story. We were sad to leave and are itching to go back to the treehouse! We've told anyone going down to Costa Rica to check out Topo's Treehouse, it's nothing short of spectacular! The treehouse comes with its own zoological environment of frogs, howler monkeys, sloths, and more! This house should not be missed if going to Costa Rica!

Jungle of Eden!!
Topo's treehouse is be THE most unique and amazing place I have ever stayed at, and definitely plan to get back to! Perfectly located within walking distance from town and Cahuita National Park, yet off the beaten path, and right around the corner from the Reggae bar which provided great food, drinks, music, bike rentals, and friendly locals and travelers. The pictures above are amazing, but even still don't do it justice - Topo's treehouse definitely exceeded our expectations. All the amenities were great. Spacious living areas on the main floor and upstairs with comfy seating and hammocks to accomodate everyone. The open floor plan from the living areas looking over the jungle was spectacular. Kitchen was well equipped and everything in top notch. Bedrooms all very clean, comfy, and also sealed off from bugs and animals. Sinks, water, showers, toilets, etc. all modern and work well. We also rented the cabin behind the house which sleeps 2 (1 bed) and has a full bathroom. It worked great for us. The property itself around the treehouse is amazing and feels like you are truly in the middle of the jungle. Lots of neat wildlife and even had howler monkey above the treehouse (yes, in the tree we stayed in)!!! Property is fenced in with a locked gate so very private and also very safe. Lastly- Topo, the owner, could not have been more accomodating. He lives on the property but off to the back and behind thick jungle so you would never even know. He made us feel very welcome, and gave us some good local knowledge for what to see/do, where to go (and where not to go). He's also very knowledgable about the wildlife in the area so made it fun to learn from him. I could not speak any higher about this property and the owner. If you like the idea of an amazing treehouse in a jungle, with modern accomodations, and walking distance to a fun layed back Caribean town - You MUST experience this! Thanks again, Topo!! Hope to meet again!

Unbelievable experience!!
This place is amazing! I couldn't believe my eyes when we arrived. I was expecting a really cool place, but when I got there I was speachless. The pictures do not do it justice. As walk through the entrance, you get the feeling of being a child again and going to that special place to get away from it all! Every detail was beautiful, with tropical wood work and gorgeous decorating, I could have moved in and never left. It is brand new and spottlessly clean. The beds were amazing and all of the little details made this a fantastic experience. The manager Terry was very helpful in planning all of our tours and giving us the scoop on the area. THere is so much to do in Cahuita that I would recommend at least 4 days...longer if you can!! I would highly recommend this place to everyone. It was the best vacation I have ever had!
