Beautiful rustic and remote cottage on one of the best beaches in Canada with an ocean view screened-in gazebo that seats eight. Enjoy a special place that has been cherished by our family for years. Also includes a large front deck, stone fireplace, propane BBQ, newly renovated bathroom, play pen for infants, second screened porch, and a fully equipped kitchen. Satellite wifi, a local telephone and heat pump with air conditioning will keep your family comfortable and connected. Truly PEI at it's best.
Our property is just beside a recently created national park and you can walk five miles in one direction along the magnificent deserted beach with some of the largest parabolic sand dunes in North America. Hurricane Fiona in 2022 took a toll on the local dunes so please be gentle with them as they build back up. The beach is of course great for kids with warm swimming from July to September.
The the cottage is cozy, clean and very private. Built over fifty years ago and recently renovated, this beautiful building of exposed pine will welcome your family for a special visit. The three bedrooms that can sleep six (two queens and a double). Fully equipped kitchen has everything you would need to create a feast of fantastic local food. The well water is tested every year to ensure it is safe for drinking and the lab results are posted in the kitchen. The elevated screened in gazebo is a great place to enjoy the sea breeze or eat dinner while the sun goes down over the ocean. A crackling fire is a treat on a cool evening and there is plenty of wood provided to use the hand-built fireplace. A split-duct heat pump provides air conditioning or warmth as needed.
The village of St. Peters Bay has a great fresh seafood store only 10 minutes away as well a local playhouse and laundry (you can dry your things on the clothesline). The cottage is close to a wetland so there are mosquitos in the evening if there is no wind. However the cottage, gazebo and second screened in are all bug-tight - no bugs on the beach. The ocean sometimes has small purple jellyfish but they are easy to see and not dangerous. Please me mindful of swimming conditions - its fun to play in the waves but use common sense and listen for any surf advisories on the news.
The fireplace is for your enjoyment but there are a few things to keep in mind. Anyways use the fireplace screen to make sure any embers don't go on the wood floor. The newly installed flue is great for keeping bugs out at when you're not having a fire. Just pull the chain down to lock it closed and release up when you have a fire on to let smoke out. There is firewood beside the chimney and more under the gazebo.
Please use the additional outdoor shower to rinse sandy feet when coming back from the beach to protect the floors. PEI has a very comprehensive recycling and composting program. I've left clearly marked receptacles for bottles, plastic, cans, compost and garbage to make it easy for you as well as our cleaner. Cell phone reception is usually ok in the cottage with stronger signals in the gazebo or on the beach.
Please note: this location is remote, wild and beautiful. The sky on a clear night will take your breath away. You can fall asleep listening to the waves on the shore. It is also not a sanitized hotel. My cleaner is excellent and the cottage will be polished to perfection on your arrival. However it is impossible to guarantee that all wild critters like ants or mice will remain outside. Please choose whether to stay in this special place with this is mind.
Enjoy this gorgeous spot. With some understandable family bias, this is truly one of the great cottages in Canada.
