Smoke-free, pet-free home! (Many people have allergies, and they specifically seek out allergen-free homes when they plan their vacation. Please do not assume our rules don't apply to you! Avoid losing your deposit by booking elsewhere if you must bring your pet or smoke indoors!) In addition, no additional guests are allowed on the premises beyond those noted in the reservation. Note: there are security cameras around the outside of the house and other structures, and inside the garage.
Spacious accommodations for an extended family! Four bedrooms in the large home will sleep 8; add three (narrow rv-size) bunks in the caboose to sleep a total of 11! We provide a pack'n'play for our youngest guests. Bring the grandparents, the aunts and uncles, the cousins… or come with 2-3 families and make memories on a fabulous vacation with friends!
***While our vacation home is a lovely place for families, it is NOT CHILDPROOFED in any way. The home, the property, and ESPECIALLY THE ANTIQUE CABOOSE with rv kitchenette hold inherent dangers for unsupervised children. CHILDREN MUST BE PROPERLY SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES.***
Sorry, no smoking inside the house, station, or caboose - a smoker’s pole is provided on the comfortable lower level patio, and near the front door and caboose - and ABSOLUTELY NO PETS are allowed. Fireworks of any type are strictly prohibited.
Enjoy loads of living space, with plenty of room to spread out and relax. The house boasts a large open floor plan including gourmet kitchen with brand new stainless steel appliances and bar seating, living room with gas fireplace, and two separate dining areas. A gas grill sits on a balcony outside with a spectacular view of the mountains. (Extra propane tanks are in the garage.) The pantry is stocked with many essentials including spices and some nonperishable food. During the summer, tiny pots on the balcony hold an array of fresh herbs for gourmet cooking.
The property is recently renovated, with hardwood and tile floors throughout. The back of the house is almost entirely glass, to take full advantage of the mountain view. There are three gas fireplaces. Free WiFi is available throughout the house, caboose, and station. There are smart TVs in the living room and master bedroom, where guests may log into their own streaming accounts. (There is no cable/satellite/TV channels, sorry.) The house has central heat and air conditioning. If the power should go out, as it frequently does in stormy weather, our generator will continue to power the entire house.
There is a large main screened deck with dining area and swing, and an adjacent balcony with gas grill. Please use caution and do not leave the grill unattended. The view of the mountain from this deck is superb, especially at sunset. There’s a stone patio below, accessed from the large den in the ground-level basement.
There’s also a fire pit with Adirondack chairs for relaxing and enjoying beautiful mountain evenings. We attempt to keep firewood stocked, but we are not local so you may want to bring some. Be sure to bring ingredients for s’mores! ***Please do not move the fire pit. It has been placed at a safe distance from the buried propane tank. The property is heavily wooded and adjacent to a national park, so please take extreme care with the fire pit; please locate the hose and bucket beside the patio. Absolutely no fireworks allowed.***
On the main level of the house, there’s a master bedroom with new king bed, gas fireplace, and en-suite bath, including bathtub with jets and separate shower. The master has a private screened deck and large walk-in closet. There are also two smaller bedrooms with new queen beds sharing a hall bath. There’s a covered carport near the front door.
On the lower level there’s a queen bedroom with stunning mountain view and a just-remodeled bathroom across the hall. There’s also a large den (stocked with games, many train themed) with a gas fireplace. The lower level also holds a large laundry room with kitchenette with extra full-size refrigerator.
The real antique red caboose is just outside, and will be the highlight of the visit for children and train enthusiasts! It is beautifully finished with hardwood floors, three bunks with new rv mattresses and train-themed bedding, small full bathroom, kitchenette, sitting area, window unit air conditioner and electric heater. (Note: safety rails for the high bunks are in the caboose closet; please use them if your child is young or at risk of falling. ***Young children should not be in the caboose without supervision because the kitchenette includes a working stove, and the antique nature of the caboose presents multiple safety issues.***) There are more toys and games in the caboose.
The station house beside the caboose is a lovely touch and an awesome hangout for older kids, with a sitting area, half bath, and screened deck. The station also has hardwood floors, and an attic fan and electric heater.
This is our family vacation home, and we have poured much love into renovating it to feel luxurious as well as fun, peaceful, and relaxing. We look forward to many years of making happy memories here, and we are excited to share it with you. I know you’ll love it as much as we do!
Our vacation home sits on over 4 acres of wooded mountainside in the Aska Adventure Area, and abuts the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Park. It’s a short 5 minute drive from the house to the hiking trail parking areas. The crystal clear Toccoa River is only a 10 minute drive away if tubing, kayaking, or trout fishing is on your agenda. Lake Blue Ridge is also nearby for boating and recreation. We have provided a cooler, camp chairs, and floats (in the mud room off the laundry or in the garage) plus beach towels for you to use during your stay.
It’s just a 12 minute drive from lovely downtown Blue Ridge, home of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad; take a 45 minute ride each way, enjoying an hour or two to get a snack and shop in McCaysville/Coppertown. (For more railroad fun, the Great Smoky Mountain Railway is just over an hour away. )
If you are flying in and need airport transportation, or if you'd like safe and accommodating transportation for a wine or beer tour, we highly recommend Kevin Fay of Libation Transportation (404) 915-9249.
Our area is very popular with outdoor adventurers! Blue Ridge is known for many great hiking and mountain biking trails, kayaking and tubing on the Toccoa River, and recreational boating on Lake Blue Ridge.
For a truly unique experience, stop by the Expedition: Bigfoot museum in nearby Cherry Log (they also have a shop on Main Street), and visit Mercier Orchards for mouth watering seasonal produce and goodies, including hard cider.
For the kids, fun options in Blue Ridge include a high ropes course, zip line, mini golf, gem mining, a great playground, and a comic book store. There’s even a drive-in movie theater!
Of course, you’ll spend a fair bit of time here eating and drinking. The lovely town of Blue Ridge boasts a number of wonderful restaurants, many featuring local trout and emphasizing fresh farm-to-table ingredients as well as craft cocktails and local beer and wines. There are coffee, tea, candy, cupcake, and ice cream shops in town, as well as several breweries and wineries.
Main Street is filled with art galleries, local artists and artisans, unique household goods and clothing, furniture, used books, and antiques. You can easily spend days walking, eating, drinking, and shopping - and enjoying the friendliness of a small southern town with modern upscale taste! Perhaps you’ll even find time to visit one of the day spas for a relaxing massage. I’m sure you will fall in love with this town as we have, and return again and again.
