The Pemonia is built on the foot of the "Lefka Ori" mountain range and operates a fairly fertile valley with vineyards and olive trees. It is a traditional settlement with a strong Cretan spirit. The traditional architecture is preserved in excellent condition. An important Byzantine church of Saint George, which has been recently renovated, is still preserved, and all indications suggest that it was inhabited since ancient times and was a rich area. The name of the village in the late Venetian period was POMOGNA BAROZZI, which means field and mansion house of the BAROZZI family. The Barozzi family dominated the surrounding area and had plenty of power. When the area was occupied by the Turks back in 1645 the name changed in Pomona and after many years became Pemonia. Every year on 15th August there is the Holy spirit celebration which is the most interesting Cretan festival that happens in Pemonia. It's really nice to make a visit that day.
