Odd that you have to leave your room key with reception whenever leaving the property. Also have to buzz to enter from theoutside, though they have always opened the door within seconds. Bathroom had a foul smell of what seemed like sewage or stale water.

Overall, we really liked the Hotel Aalders. The location was great -- on a nice quiet street, yet just a couple blocks from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, and an easy walk from Leidseplein with abundant restaurant and night life opportunities. Also, several tram and bus lines stop just a block away. The hotel is in an older building, but is charming and is clean and well maintained. And, fortunately, it has an elevator, unlike some older hotels in Amsterdam. The breakfast is decent. Our room (deluxe comfort) was comfortable and big enough for our purposes. Only real complaint was the lack of an in-room refrigerator, so we couldn't store snacks or left-overs, or buy our own cold drinks from the store. That may have been their point, because they sell drinks downstairs in their "honesty bar." Those items were not unreasonably priced, but the selection is limited. I think it would also be good if they updated their rooms with modern key cards, but we got used to using the old fashioned key and leaving it at the desk when we went out. It's kind of an expensive place, but Amsterdam hotels are just plain expensive, so relative to other places we might have booked, it was a good value.

You pay for the location, but the fact that the check-in is quite late and the check-out is quite early make lt a bit uncomfortable and no good value for money considering other options around. The rooms are quite conventional, nothing stands out.

We’ll run hotel in a wonderful area with luxury shops, a beautiful park and museums near by. The hotel is close to the tram and bus stops. Only negative is the hotel does not have air conditioning. We did open windows at night which kept the room cool.

Lovely property in an amazing location - close to key attractions and with direct public transport links from/to the airport. Staff members have been very welcoming, kind and helpful. The room I had was cleaned to a high standard and had all necessities provided. One thing I would add is a full body length mirror - maybe it was just might room without it (single room). I would definitely recommend it and would stay again.
