Historic Home, Modern & Charming Decor, Wine Trail, Private Rental

Where 1892 meets modern luxury in a vacation home rental, located in Alto Pass, Illinois. We are in the heart of the southern Illinois wine trail and just a few miles from Bald Knob Cross, gorgeous hiking areas and bike trails. You will love Havisham House. This house holds historic charm and is tastefully decorated. Very clean, spacious and private. When you rent one room, you get the entire home.
This stately Main House offers two beautiful bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, parlor, living room, formal dining room, breakfast/sun room and a spacious and relaxing covered front porch. The living room has private doors, a gas fireplace and comfortable queen sleeper sofa. Main House sleeps up to 6 adults. Not a child-friendly home.
Why did we name it "Havisham House"? Have you read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens? Main character, Miss Havisham, lived in the Satis House, a ruined mansion. This property immediately reminded me of this classic novel when we found it in 2015… abandoned and heavily damaged from a severe tornado. (Please see "before" pictures at havishamhouse.com.) Even with its extensive damage, we fell in love with this property and had "great expectations" for its rescue. We think you will truly enjoy your stay as you make wonderful memories in southern Illinois. We know you will love Havisham House as much as we do.

Perfect!
I found this place online and planned our whole weekend around this home. This is not a place you just stop and sleep; this is a place that you make your whole weekend about. I did have to admit to my husband how much he spent on this place. My excuse was “it was less than the Peabody”. Of all the homes, places, rentals I have stayed in over the past fourteen years of traveling - this has been my favorite. I believe it will be hard to top.

Great space to share with friends and family
The property has lots of space and living areas, making it easy to gather with friends or spread out for privacy. The large covered patio can be enjoyed in any weather. The house is beautifully renovated and very well maintained. There are many delicate decorations so definitely go outside if you want to throw a ball around.

Beautiful restored getaway!
This 1890's home and grounds has been beautifully restored with love and detail. Whether you need a quiet weekend staying in with your loved one or exploring the wine trail, this is the home for you. My wife and I had a wonderful time staying here for the weekend. We enjoyed the majority of it inside the Havisham House. We will definitely be back. M&K. Paducah, KY.

Beautiful Property
The house is a gorgeous mix of old and new, situated in a quaint town with really nice nature all around. Definitely a neat place to spend some time at or book your wedding at. Works best if you can fill up the sleeping spaces, so then you can take full advantage of the formal dining room. Gerri and Nick are very responsive!

This Place Exceeded Our Expectations!
Wow! This house looked great online, but the pics don’t convey the “feeling” it provides. It had so much character that we truly can’t do it justice in words. Every room has been classicly decorated and planned out. The AC worked great and the place was immaculate! The owner is terrific to communicate with and she made us feel very welcome and valued as customers. We have been staying in the area for 20 years and this house is our new favorite!

Fantastic getaway; you won't need any electronics to keep you entertained.
Not enough words to describe how great the property is; but will try. Phenomenal, breathtaking, peaceful, historical, and full of character. There is so much to do in the area. Wineries, wineries, and more wineries. A trip to Cape Girardeau is only 45 minutes away. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here. We will be back.
