"Nice hotel right on the beach and next to many restaurants. Pool is large and gym is adequate. Staff are very polite and friendly and aim to please. Room was large with nice sea view though heats up in the afternoon if it is a hot day as the ocean view room has the afternoon sun. Room has good blockout curtains, comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Furniture in room is modern and doesn’t make the room feel inviting as you would expect in a heritage hotel. "I was celebrating my wedding anniversary but nothing was provided for the occasion. No one even recognized the occasion and mentioned happy anniversary. In previous years I have checked in other hotels where something special was provided and was recognized during check in."

"A nice, historic building with friendly staff and an impeccable location. The botanic gardens adjoining are a real treasure. The food was a letdown though - high tea service was slow, we had to ask to be served after 30 minutes (even to choose tea). The sandwiches were made on stale bread. Surprisingly poor since the Verandah restaurant is highly rated. Room was well laid out and practical."
