"I loved staying here because the bed was comfortable, there was special soap and shampoo in the shower room and toilet, the staff were mostly friendly and courteous. Getting there was difficult by public transport I would say but there's a great Carvery next door. My double room was spacious with a fine telly (although the controls took some getting used to! - as I'm an older person but not old) I would definitely consider returning. There were no chests of drawers but I didn't mind - hangers...

Someone was on reception when I arrived in the evening at c.8.30pm, contrary to what was said in the the note I received from Hotels.com prior (i.e. that reception closes at 7.30pm). There is plenty of free on-site parking, which was convenient. The building is beautiful, nicely maintained and the setting is quite special, in the countryside and beside the Derwent River. "A country home feel with hotel style rooms make this a peaceful stay. Off the beaten track but within a short drive to some alternative restaurants make this a decent overnight option. We selected this so we could visit York and yet be ‘in the country’. Room was basic but comfy. One note. Many doors around give access to the car park - but they are only marked emergency exit and you have to walk in / out of the main doors. Inconvenient with luggage. "
