"Friendly staff in reception and restaurant, amazing facilities clean and little things that are considered eg bag for wet swimwear in pool. Only complaint is the electrical equipment in room is out of date for PAT testing( I'm a health and safety officer so notice these things) and the food in restaurant, mainly breakfast could be improved as it was cold... Might be better to let guests order as they come in than the buffer style"

"The hotel is like a tardis. When you first see it from the front it looks like a nice decent sized pub. Then the accommodation area extends quite some way off the back, which was a surprise. Once you walk away from the bar into the accommodation area, that's where the issues start. "I wonder if this was a coaching inn back in the day as it's on the way into the city, but it's just outside the walls and on the end of Stane St, the Roman connection to the world eastwards.So it's an old rambling inn with many rooms in nooks and crannies. Our room was adequate, a twin as I booked late.It has a massive dining room downstairs to feed everyone, which it does in some style. We tasted the bangers and mash, with local sausages. The problem came in the morning when I wanted to leave...

"The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a family lunch for my Mums 93rd birthday and everyone was so helpful and obliging. The only downside for us was the street noise early in the morning. When we stay again we will be requesting a room at the back of the hotel. We struck lucky in that the group Hot Fuzz were playing on the Saturday night and they were excellent."
