"Located in a rural area that is close to some beautiful natural sights. A short drive from the UNESCO heritage site (old growth beech forest). We came in early November and were a bit late for the peak fall colours, but there were still plenty of vibrant orange and yellow leaves. Hotel itself is showing its age, but they keep the rooms very clean. Kind and courteous staff made us feel welcomed. Would recommend for anyone looking for a quiet nature escape."

The staff doesn't speak much English, so make sure you have at least a rudimentary level of Japanese or a translation device if you're staying here, but they are very helpful and friendly. "Quiet area, right next to the coast and the Akita tower (which is free to visit at anytime, even at night when the shops close). Supermarket right next door. This area is more suburban, but still a handful of small restaurants nearby. 10 to 15 minute walk from Tsuchizaki train station. Not walkable from downtown Akita. You need to take the train or bus to get to Akita, but the train is very convenient. Breakfast was excellent. Lots of options even if you are vegetarian. Less options if you are...
