"We picked a very busy day to need a bed in Durham as it was the university open weekend. La Spada was reasonably priced & good enough, despite quite a few adverse reviews. The hotel is not set up to take guests after 10pm, a fact not highlighted when we booked at 11.30pm & then tried to get in. Fortunately we were admitted. There was no breakfast service."

"All in all nice little cottage for a couple and good as was pet friendly to go up Durham to visit our son up uni and take our dog to see him too. Cottage was nice a little place although i think the tv was slightly too high on wall. As we arrived there were 3 plumbing vans parked outside so had to park out side another cottage for bout hour n half till they moved their vans after going in pub at front of cottages before parking own car then outside our own cottage. "The staff, the food at both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Parking is just across a quiet road. Our room however left us literally cold. Old building, 'wavy' floors, single glazed casement windows facing the prevailing - brisk - wind and an outside temperature of close to freezing. Then the heating gets switched off for the night ! Considering that this was the most expensive 'one nighter' on our recent trip, we were less than satisfied."
