"I made a last minute choice to stay overnight and chose quickly, without really knowing the area. It wasn't the safest feeling place I've ever stayed, and if I'd taken the time, I might have chosen a different location. Welcome sign in Elkin, North Carolina. Downtown Elkin is marketed as a historic and quaint town in the Yadkin Valley. It is funny to see this contrasted by an electronic welcome board. This board did not exist until the sometime in the past couple years or so. It makes you wonder why they chose to choose a more modern looking sign when they also want to keep the historic and quaint vibe that they market. In a way, I guess it is their way of integrating more modern technology to keep up with the times, and as a money making opportunity. #appalachianechoes
