About this property

Entire place

CASA MONARCA. Self sustained house in La Ropa, Zihuatanejo, Gro. México.

Casa Monarca was built with an off the grid solar system to provide comfort with a low carbon dioxide footprint. This property runs on solar energy and a generator to power all the electrical equipment. We only welcome Guests with an energy saving conscience who understand and use energy, lights and fans, responsably.
This Villa is located at the top of the hill in La Ropa, with unobstructed views of both Las Gatas beach and La Ropa beach, while giving the convenience of being only 900 m (0.6 miles) from the beach. Casa Monarca gets a constant breeze so there is no need to worry about those pesky mosquitoes.
Five ensuite bedrooms are spread across a large multi-leveled 700 m2 lot with lots of green space living between. The secluded location provides with privacy and natural beauty. Our gardens grow different tropical fruits such as mango, guanavana, banana, pomegranate, lime and orange in a seasonal fashion. Casa Monarca has two pools, terraces and green areas for maximum relaxation during your stay, not to mention the tropical weather all year round with average temperatures around 25-30˚C during the coldest months.
Casa Monarca has five bedrooms which sleeps 15 people comfortably and a play room.
Each suite is uniquely decorated and designed with tranquility in mind. The master suite is a large bedroom with a King size bed, vaulted ceiling, a cozy living room with resting area, t.v., fans, A/C and two twin size sofa beds, sleeps 2 adults and 2 children/teenagers comfortably. Ensuite bathroom contains a double sink countertop with a double shower. This bedroom has its own private infinity pool with a terrace featuring a 180 degree view of Zihuatanejo Bay, playa "La Ropa" overlooking the vast Mexican Pacific Ocean. This is a second floor suite with stair access only. A second medium size bedroom is located in the main house area with direct access to kitchen, living room, main pool and terrace. This room features a king size bed, vaulted ceiling, fans, AC and own ensuite bathroom with a double sink. Sleeps 2 adults. This room has the advantages of being in the main living space, where the living room offers a TV, stereo (ipad, iphone) and DVD player. Two more suites are located under the main pool, these are medium size bedrooms with double queen beds, fans, A/Cs, hammocks and own ensuite bathroom.

RENTAL OF THE PROPERTY EXCLUDES ANY TYPE OF SERVICE ASSOCIATED WITH CLEANING OF THE PREMISES, COOKING, USE OF A DRIVER. If you wish to add these or other services, please let us know ahead of time. We can arrange for services to be provided by locals, and financial arrangements and concerns would need to be made directly with these people, as they are not affiliated with Casa Monarca in any way. Please read the following before requesting a booking

We welcome you to stay at our home. Please note, we are not a hotel. We have built our home to encompass our strong beliefs in conserving energy and leaving as small of a footprint as we can to preserve the environment for our future generations. We, personally, do not have daily housekeeping services or an onsite cook. We can, however, put you in touch with locals who can provide these services, should you request them.
Our home is built to rely completely on solar energy to run the electrical aspects. Although we have a lot of energy, it is unlike traditional power that is unlimited. We only have what is stored. We therefore encourage that if you stay at our home, you follow the same ideology as we do, i.e. turning off the lights and fans when not in the room.
We have five rooms in total. Two of which have ocean/pool views and two more with garden views. Each room has its own ensuite bathroom and can accommodate between 2-4 people. Although we normally sleep using fans only, all rooms are equipped with A/C units. Keeping with our philosophy, the units are on a timer to conserve energy.
The land surrounding our home is currently not build on, which gives great privacy and surrounds the property with a lush jungle. The area is home to many different species, including a variety of birds, geikos, and insects. It is not uncommon to see insects and birds come over the wall to drink the water from the pool, as it is the only source of water in the area.
Finally we ask that you treat our home as you would your own and hope you enjoy it as much as our family does!

Casa Monarca sleeps a maximum of 15 people in five bedrooms.

Wow! What a view!
This place offers privacy from others, yet is close enough to everything you need. It’s very clean and comfortable. The kids loved the pool. I could have stayed here another week! Will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful view from pool and living area
Generator ran all night for AC in bedrooms. Driveway was very steep (19 degrees) and some taxis had hard time making it up. Renting a newer car would be helpful. Overall it was a lovely place with a magnificent view and stunning sunsets . Even saw whales breaching.

Good times at Casa Monarca
We had a group of family and friends for our 7 day stay. Ages 11-50’s. It was a fun filled week with a beautiful house and amazing views. The hill getting up to the property was long and steep and was a bit inconvenient at times but we managed to explore the local area on foot and in taxis.

The Casa has many positives for a happy experience
Fabulous view of the bay. Very comfortable covered patio. Gorgeous swimming pool for adults and young children. Bed rooms clean and comfortable. There is maximum privacy from other residences . Access to and from the Casa can only be made by using a hired vehicle or a taxi. Expecting to be able to walk the intense inclines is not reasonable. The property manager’s constant checking in and support was excellent.

Nice, but...
Limited water (we were without water for 3 out of our 9 day stay). AC runs on gas generator and quits at 2am or so. Internet not working during our stay. Difficult access, especially if someone in your group is older or handicapped. Do a through check for bugs/scorpions before crawling into bed. Maintenance crew did their best, but the maintenance problems should be addressed when there are no guests staying at the house. House structure is beautiful, but overall systems, i.e., water, plumbing, appliances, and access, did not live up to "luxurious" description.

Beautiful view of Ixtapa
The good bad and the ugly. The house is very nice, the beds are clean and very comfortable. The swimming pool is very nice and clean. There is a very steep hlll to get to the property. Need to have a good vehicle to get up the hill. Not recommended to walk. It's about 5 minutes to beach. We had several issues that where resolve and the AC system was never resolved. It was supposed to work from 10pm to 8am. The 1st night it work from 10to 8, 2nd night from 10 to 7. 3rd night from 10 to 6 and the 4tb night from 10to 5. It is very difficult to sleep without the ac working all night. Suppose to relax and sleep late if you want when vacationing. This AC problem was a deal breaker for me. Couldn't enjoy the property be cause it was so hot. The living room has no AC. And the fans don't hell much. The cable didn't work had to program it. There was no gas to cook with. The other gas tank wasn't on so there was no hot water. All this issues should be resolve by hostess not by the visitors. In conclusion this property would be great only if the AC system would work correctly.

Just like advertised
The weather in Zihua was hot during the day, but fabulously cool at night. The house itself is beautiful and beds are very comfortable. The walk up the road was steep, but was a good workout. Sergio, the host attendant, made mention the road was being fixed to decrease the slope. The property was very large. There were bananas on the trees, but were not quite ready for us to eat yet. We were pleasantly surprised with how crystal clear the pool water was, especially in comparison to most hotel pools. The walk down to La Ropa beach is very close and we even discovered a walking trail to get us to Las Gatas beach from La Ropa! We were able to snorkel in Las Gatas beach and we were lucky to see lots of colorful fishes by the Jesus Christ statue that is immersed in the ocean. Looking forward to returning!

Esperamos volver pronto.

Great View
This property has an awesome view and pool area, rooms are large with nice bathrooms. Although getting to the property can be a challenge, we had to walk up the hill a few times during our stay because the taxi's could not make it up the hill. The owner does have a car available to use if you wish. The use of the car was not an option for us because there was 8 adults, Taxi's are $10 to Zihuatanejo. We did have many issues during our stay. From running out of water/water pressure, A/C stopping in the middle of the night, garbage not being picked up and spyders. Yes, the owner did respond to our concerns is a timely manner. I feel that there was way to many issue to overcome during our stay. We went on vacation to get away from problems and relax. It is my opinion that I would not recommend this property to a friend or relative.

Stunning view - fantastic fireworks
We arrived in Zihua on New Years Eve - a family of four. Our experience in Zihua was one of our most relaxing and re-energizing trips. We had just come from Cancun, where we had spent a week with friends at an all-inclusive resort and we had found that we could not relax there due to the numerous night events, including a wedding that we could hear from our bedroom, with the windows closed. We realized that we are at the point where we prefer privacy and quietness we got in Zihua. There were some great restaurants not far from the house, down the hill in playa madera. We also liked the fact that it takes a short drive to get to the beach from the house. The highlight of our trip: the night we arrived, there were two firework shows down at the beach and from the house, we could see both clearly! Awesome!

Our family vacation In Zihua was awesome!
We were 3 families with 4 kids. The view from the swimming pool is fantastic, we spent more time in the pool than on the beach. Having the car was a luxury. The property was well equipped and maintained. Early morning walk in sand and breakfast out. Days went by so fast. Will go back again. Diamond

We all love Casa Monarca. It is full of details to relax in this beautiful location. We all enjoyed the pools and "La Ropa beach", which is close enough. We also enjoyed some classic movies at night. The location of the house helps with the good ventilation in all areas and all day. We would definitely like to come back soon ! Jorge G

amazing time in Zia
Our family of 10 (which included 4 children) was a memorable stay. The views from this house were amazing. The house allows u to each have their own space but the central living area gives everyone the opportunity to be all together - to eat, drink and play games and of course swim. The pool is amazing and everyone spent a lot of time in there. We had amazing time.
