The Haven is a unique apartment in a cozy, repurposed church in the heart of Winslow. Its soaring wooden arches and adobe walls help deliver that getaway feeling you've been needing. The space sleeps 5 comfortably with 1 on a huge Victorian sofa.
The Sanctuary, the Haven, and the Idyll may be rented together sleeping up to 10 in the three conjoined spaces subject to availability of all three separate units.
The space
The Haven is a restful, intriguing retreat in the chapel of our repurposed church. There are many antiques and art is intermingles with brimming bookcases, vintage board games, unusual lamps and statuary. You immediately enter The Great Room with its soaring 15 ft. ceiling and amazing furniture. There's a Kokopelli lamp right inside the door to help illuminate the space. You'll find scads of chairs, a piano, amusing lamps, and a long table at the center of the room.
The photos on our site will give you a feel for this carpeted space which also features a remarkable, beveled-pane church window which pressages the bedroom. You'll find a queen-size bed with a brand-new temper-pedic mattress and luxurious linens. There is also a roomy wardrobe in this private room.
A curtained hide-a-bed area can make a cozy mini-escape. It turns into a fullsize double bed and the curtains can be drawn for more privacy.
The kitchen, though smaller, has the requisite appliances: stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. The kitchen's retro look is achieved by using rusted, galvanized steel panelling and African wood trim that complement the repurposed colander overhead lamps. Be sure to look for the Arizona mudflap used as kitchen art. It's easy to make a meal here or just have a refreshing drink.
The fourth space is the newly renovated bathroom, which, though small, has an ultra modern shower with a superb showerhead, a quaint metal sink and a comfort-height commode. Mirrors abound, so it's more than utilitarian.
Back in the Great Room, the huge Victorian sofa below the mantle can be made into a single bed upon request or guests may make up the bed themselves with linens and blanket provided.
The Haven is cooled by a swamp cooler, not AC, and guests have access to the controls. There is also an enclosed courtyard with lighting, a charcoal barbecue and wood burning firepit, mainly used from September through May.
Guest access
The glass-door kitchen entrance to the Haven is reached from the driveway.
Other things to note
There is off street parking for one vehicle next to the entrance.
Dogs are welcome and guests may have one dog.
