Travelling to Saba was on our "bucket list". We knew where it was but not much else. This is a small island and not a resort experience. If you like to hike then this is the place. Same with diving. Leave your expectations at home.
We stayed at the Arawak Hotel for 4 nights in late October. We had a one bedroom with a partial kitchen. The location was great, the view fantastic, and the Hotel quaint. The Arawak is being upgraded constantly but supplies are hard to get on Saba, so be patient. The owner is doing a great job, helpful, and very pleasant. If you are missing anything in the kitchen or your room, just ask. Yes, it is a 2 star hotel but a 5 star experience.
The main hiking trail is about 300metres for the Hotel. Getting to the top of the mountain in the cloud forest is well worth it. Take a picnic, you won't be disappointed. The nearest town is a 1km walk, and has 2 grocery stores, restaurants and bars.
You can get to the Arawak by ferry or plane. The thrill of landing on the shortest commercial runway in the world is a must. Taking off is exceptional, especially when Hurricane Tammy was arriving the next day!!!!
If you are going to Saint Maarten, then don't miss out on Saba.
