My wife and I booked our family vacation for 6 nights over Labor Day weekend 2023 on March 31, 2023. We have 7 children and their spouses and a 6-month-old grandchild, so we where excited about the space, number of bedrooms and baths and that the property was on the water. Last minute, a few days before Easter weekend we decide to celebrate our anniversary and book the same property we booked for a family vacation scheduled over Labor Day weekend. We could have stayed in a property that accommodate only 2 of us but thought this would be a great opportunity to see the place and get the lay of the land before our family trip. Thank goodness we did.
We arrived at 4:00 pm on Friday. As we drove up to the house, we saw several cars on the circular driveway in front of a house adjacent to the rental property (This is where the property owner lives). This house was littered with trash, old furniture, and appliances (an eyesore to say the least). I was met by the property owner that was still getting the place ready. It was uncomfortable as we move our luggage in as he and his wife were still working. Example, we had to make a few trips in and out of the house and on one of the trips back in we notice several garbage bags that had not been there before, meaning that they entered the house after we had already checked in. The owner confirmed that he did live in the eyesore house and his son lives in an apartment over the pool house connected to the living quarters of the rental.
As we unpacked, we noticed that even though the place was put together on the inside it just didn’t appear to be clean. My assumption was confirmed when the owner said he did not have cleaning service but that he, his wife, and son did all the cleaning. This is an 8 bedroom, 16 bed, 5 full bathroom property, you do the math.
We entered the connecting pool as where his wife was still cleaning. The roof was leaking water onto a pool table that was uncovered which already appeared to have mold.
After dinner that night we noticed that there was a lack of hot water as we were washing dishes. The next morning as we were going to take a shower there was no hot water. I messaged the owner and he promptly responded that he would investigate it. An hour later he came to the house and confirmed that his propane tank was empty and the meter on the tank must be broken because if reflected that there was ample gas. He apologized and said this has
