We stayed at the Wyndham Kingsgate for a week in Williamsburg with our adult children and their significant others. The accomommodations worked out well for the 8 of us, using the sofa beds. First, the location is great for touring around Williamsburg - we easily visited Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Busch Gardens and Water Country. There are lots of great places to eat nearby, and we did plenty of that! It was very very hot the week we were there, so we also had a couple pool days, which were lovely! Not too crowded, and they have a separate, adults only pool, which we really appreciated. We tried mini golf, but it was just too hot. Also spent part of an evening in the arcade, which was fun, and free! There really was more going on at the property than we took advantage of, for example - a nightly movie in the theater and other activities that might be good for families with younger kids. We tended to stay in our unit playing games together, and that was great too. Everything seemed very clean, and the resort, other than the unit itself, was well cared for.
Now the not so good. We arrived on a Friday night and check in was a long process. Very inefficient! You have to talk to 3 different people before you can get in your room, and people were lined up to the outside waiting. We got in about 5:00 and we got through all the lines only to find out our room wasn't ready, so we went to dinner and came back when things had calmed down. The last step in the check in process is ostensibly to get your keys and bracelets (which function as keys) but it's really a pitch for a time share talk. Not too hard sell, but they did call us later to see if we were interested. When we said no, there was no more pressure. But honestly, we weren't even tempted to hear the pitch because of the condition of the unit we stayed in. Yes, it was dated, and I can accept that, but there were stains on all the furniture, the dishwasher door was broken and the dishwasher had flooded the nearby carpet. When we called about this, they were responsive and solved the water issue. The door stayed broken. The folding door that was in front of the washer/dryer was also broken off its track. We just set that aside. But it just made everything seem run down. In spite of the maintenance issues, it did seem clean, and the beds were comfortable. Once we had to complain of noise from upstairs, but otherwise, we had a good stay. Probably wouldn't go back though.
