Lovely Comfortable Property
Booked the property for a catch up with friends - 3 couples. Cottage was very clean, spacious and well equipped with everything we needed for a short break in a quiet location but within walking distance of Sandsend and Whitby. The food hamper with tea coffee etc and special treats was an added bonus !! The on site restaurant was excellent as were those in Sandsend. Would definitely return.

Hi-tech cottage in Sandsend
This a new cottage in the grounds of Raithwaite Hall which is being renovated. The cottages are private and remote from the main road, although for the time being you have to drive through what felt like a building site. Parking was tight around the cottages as guests don't use the car park due to builder's equipment. The cottage itself was well equipped and had a lot of technology throughout e.g. good wi-fi, large screen TVs in each room., smart speakers (if you're a fan), and for some reason an Apple Mac! The living area seemed gloomy.

Short break
On booking I was asked how we would like the second bedroom I requested twin beds this was not carried through. The cottage itself is beautiful .

Birthday celebration
The cottage was fantastic. Arrived and very clean tidy and welcoming, although it was far too hot on arrival and took several hours to cool down. There were a few issues with the toilet flush, which broke, but Stays York were quick to reply regarding fixing the problem. Plenty of crockery and glasses which was brilliant when you are entertaining and the facilities were good.

Disappointing stay
The property was poorly managed with a long list of faults. These were pointed out to the letting agents, their response was very disappointing. Here is the list, decide for yourselves. When we arrived we found the recycling bins full of rubbish and no bin bags were left. In order for us to use the cottage we had to go shopping for the following, Hand soap Shower gel Dishwasher tablets Bin bags Larder cupboard supplies, salt pepper, oil, silver foil & kitchen roll Plus most importantly oven gloves. The cottage is marketed as a luxury cottage, the above supplies should be included as is with other cottages that we have rented even in Covid times. To arrive and find the cleaners have left a jay cloth and two dishwasher tablets is an insult. The walls are marked and scratched around the house, and the carpets are stained. The property is well used and not kept up to. We found the following faults. There is no water pressure upstairs when water is used downstairs. The heating is constantly on, thermostats do not seem to work properly and we had to open doors to cool down. In this current climate this is not a green approach and is very concerning. The door mats supplied are slippery and dangerous, they are an accident waiting to happen. The washing machine has a drying function that does not work The dishwasher plate rack is broken. The duvet in the downstairs bedroom is far too small for the duvet cover. The fridge door storage rack is missing, presumably broken, making storage in a very small fridge even more difficult. There is no where to put your clothes other than a few coat hangers, we therefore had to live out of our suitcases. There was no light bulb in one of the bedside lamps. The toilet brushes are totally disgusting.

Beautiful, spacious house in Sandsend
This is a beautiful house that is comfortably furnished and situated in the delightful Raithwaite Estate. We arrived to a lovely little Yorkshire goody bag, filled with yummy treats - which was most welcome! The beds were super comfortable, with lovely bed linen and the place was spotless. Would definitely return again - many thanks!

Accommodation for our wedding at Raithwaite
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Discovery cottage. Beautiful accommodation in a great location. Only slight grumble, 1x TV does not work in the down stairs bedroom. When I raised this with Stays York they were aware of this however no solution to fix this was made. This room was used to get ready for my wedding day preparations also which was a little frustrating.
