The Space:
Even Keel is a first-floor apartment situated on the west side of Whitby, just 50m from the sandy beach and sea, and a short walk to the many amenities in the town. The apartment consists of an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private balcony. The living area has comfortable sofas for four and a secondary seating area meaning you can watch the world go by in a large swivel chair. On a sunny day you can open the bi-fold doors and let the outside in! The large flat-screen TV with both satellite and terrestrial free-to-air channels means you can enjoy an evening on the sofa with your favourite shows, whilst one of the bedrooms also has its own TV if you need a little privacy for your favourite programme.
The fully equipped kitchen is home to everything you could need to prepare and enjoy home cooked meals - an oven, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, freezer and a large selection of cookware and dinnerware, in addition to cutlery and glassware. The dining area sits alongside the kitchen and is the perfect spot for enjoying meals with your whole party.
The first bedroom features a king-size bed (180 width x 190 length) which can be split into two singles upon request, the ideal configuration if you are travelling with teenagers or friends. The second bedroom is set up with two singles (90 x 190), however these can be merged upon request to form a king. Each room has ample storage space for your personal belongings whether you are staying for a few nights or longer and the dressing table doubles up as a desk space for those who need to log on during their stay. With quality mattresses and bedding as standard, you are guaranteed a restful night's sleep.
The slightly larger bedroom features an ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower, WC and basin.
The second bathroom can be accessed from the main hallway and features a bath with overhead shower, WC and basin. The apartment benefits from a private balcony with outdoor furniture - the perfect spot to relax with a morning coffee or an afternoon aperitif.
You also have access to a private parking space for one vehicle during your stay, so you can unload with ease. Once inside the building, a spacious lift will take you and your belongings from the entrance hall right to the door of the apartment.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full apartment. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
There is private parking for up to one car at the rear of the property.
Please note that pets are not permitted to stay in Even Keel. This is to protect future guests who may be allergic to animal hair as they may suffer, even months later.
The Neighborhood:
Set on the west side of Whitby, Even Keel is just a short walk into the centre of town. Head to Pier Road and you’ll find cosy pubs, fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. At the other end of Pier Road, you’ll see the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk.
Over the bridge, you’ll find yourself on the east bank which is full of narrow mediaeval cobbled streets dotted with boutiques, pubs, shops where you can buy the famous Whitby Jet jewellery and even more restaurants. Walk past the Fortune's smokehouse and kipper shop and climb the renowned 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary and you can also discover the ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’. Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park which is the perfect area for long walks.
Getting Around:
The centre of Whitby is a short walk from Even Keel.
Whitby train station is less than half a mile away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
There are plenty of bus routes around and outside of Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.
