Kitchen had everything, inc. a cafetière, salt & pepper grinders, dedicated drawer of superbly sharp knives(!) & a resident kitchen spider who earnt her keep by catching a mosquito! The bed is huge - could easily fit 3 people! (Duvet cover is a bit noisy/rustles like taffeta when it moves, so light sleepers with partners prone to nocturnal limb flailing might be kept awake by this. "The house is in a good location in the heart of Hawes. The house has three good reception rooms and 7 bedrooms, 5 of which are ensuite which are ideal for large groups as we were 13. 3 of the lower ground floor bedrooms were only accessible from the outside down steep steps, which is a drawback in poor weather and external lighting that worked would be helpful. We had a few issues that we reported and the property contractors could only resolve one issue immediately which was disappointing as...

"We loved our stay at The Old Post Office. Ideal for our family get-together. The beds are really comfortable, lots of spaces to hang out in the house, the area is magic- roll out of the front door and you are by the river or can go on glorious riverside walks from the front door. The Aga was lovely and warm and the property was well equipped, we had everything we needed. For us the photos didn't do it justice, The Old Post Office was comfortable, characterful and very spacious."

There are numerous walks in the area, several delightful pubs amd restaurants, and it is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. The property itself, though, needs some work. "You enter the property though an out-house at the end of a path. There’s no working outside light so, if you arrive late or like to go out on an evening take a torch. When we arrived, the bins were overflowing, and bags of rubbish had been piled up along the path. The outside area doesn’t get cleaned or maintained so, if you like al fresco dining you need a stiff brush and bucket of soapy water to clean away all the rotting fruit, leaves and debris. "The property was much smaller than expected and we were disappointed by the quality of furnishings and equipment some of which were old (floor coverings and kitchen utensils) and unacceptable in our view. We felt the photographs had been staged and larger groups would have struggled to have had a comfortable experience. The shower was difficult to use and was inaccessible for those who might have any physical issues and particularly so if pregnant or with balance problems. "
