We really enjoyed getting to know the Waikoloa Village part of the Big Island, and we were really comfy at Ahe Waikoloa Hills unit.I wouldn't have guessed that being so close to the little shopping center would be a good thing. But the building is well-insulated so we never noticed traffic noise. It was so convenient to dash across the street to get groceries, water, ice cream, Mexican food. No worries with lists, just go if you need something.I am a birder, and enjoyed learning about a few species that have taken up residence in the area: wild turkeys (not very wild), chestnut-bellied sand grouse, rosy-faced lovebirds, and others. A short drive up the mountain to Waiki'i I saw Pueo, Hawaii's native owl. The climate was pleasantly cool at night, breezy in the day. It was fun to be 20 minutes' drive from Waimea, where the misty weather was typically 15 degrees colder. Or, 20 minutes' drive from the beach, or 35 minutes from shopping in Kona town. The finishes in the unit are new, it has a nice kitchen with everything you need.I did have to work with Saltwater to fix a water leak in the beginning of our stay. They worked hard to get the plumbers in and out of our hair. The only complaint I had was the entryway carpet needed to be shampooed -- nothing uncomfortable, but noticeable. I only used the pool one time, but saw families taking their kids there, looked fun. We would take our evening stroll across the road in the golf course neighborhood, saw some beautiful red sunsets with the ocean in the distance.
