There is very little property on this side of the island these days, maybe even in town that is private and without neighbors AND WITHOUT street lights. When you drive from the property heading towards the main highway, it’s like you’ve entered the twilight zone (hustle and bustle.)
This island, Hawaii nei close to becoming a concrete island with deep rooted history and culture, we try hard to remember & preserve.
We pule ( gather together in prayer before grounding ourselves to the Aina with food
By staying here you will get a sense of something meaningful. I believe this valley, with its history has spiritual roots and each person will have a unique connection, an experience you just can’t seem to pin point.
There is much work to do here. I am hopeful next year, a huge difference…. All with good intentions.
There are no streetlights and no neighbors for 2 1/2 miles from the left and right side from the house.
This is not your average resort type or average residential area such as a subdivision. The property is located on a historical gathering place.
The nightly rate covers the property. The fees go to the locals who do the work and keeping this place operating and with ongoing improvements.
A goal is in place for making this exclusive private place to stay with private health amenities such as a hot tub with all the bells a whistles, steam sauna, cold plunge, self salon room with pro fun stuff.
Coming soon- outside shower with privacy enclosure around the shower except under the sun or moon and stars. Why not, no neighbors.

We have a lanai, the entire front area of the duplex. You will be hanging with the birds mountain side.

Stargazing is magnificent here.
There is so much history here.
The view of the KoleKole Pass is breathtaking., especially mornings and evening before the sun sets.
We only offer natural attractions of which is on the land naturally and our cultural ways of celebrating, and the ways of Aloha and Malama to all.
If you wish for resort type, we are only 8 minutes away from Koolina resorts and Kapolei shopping area.
The duplex house is located on coral, being non-arable is impossible for growing yearly crops. So we have found other ways to help pay the cost of residential water instead of paying farmers price for water that we are not given even though this property is, “AGRICULTURE 2” . Other costs as well.
We also have a huge open pavilion for family cultural gatherings.
In historical times and now this gathering place still exists for locals historical cultural events. Our culture is to Gather together, ku ka ku ka ku ka( talk story), eat, Aloha Aina, malama Aina, malama kupuna, keiki, Ohana, everything, everyone.
Just so you know, we are local people & are as laid back but hardworking people.
Ekalamai, We are new to VRBO. Although I am a premier host, I am still a human being with flaws. i have only good intentions, so Please let me know if there is anything we can do to improve your stay now or for future reference, we are always learning and looking forward to your feedback.
Now,
Across the street is preserved land ( preserve one), meaning no one can build or have electricity, plus other things.

It’s become a private hiking spot. Very beginner to advanced hiking.
History: A high ranking navy officer was first to buy this land across from the house and all the way down towards the main highway. He raised cattle and used the natural resources of rocks on the mountains for the construction of several corrals, keeping the cattle from straying. If you hike up the mountain in front of the house just 10-15 feet up, you will be able to see the corrals made of stacked rocks if you look towards the left side of the street, close to the beginning of Lualualei Naval Road. You can also see stacked rocks going up the mountain and joining to naturally formed sides of the mountain used as fences,
IMPORTANT: we will try our best to keep trails we personally made and groomed for our personal use and now your personal use too. There is only One thing to watch for on this mountain and any other hiking places on the island, The Kiawe Tree. The Kiawe Tree has powerful thorns that if you should get one punctured through your skin even the slightest, could slowly infect the area having you to seek medical attention. If you come across one, it is the male, Goddess Pele’s warriors, you notice the thorns instantly, be aware. There is females having no thorns that usually surround the male. so far, i've only seen one male.
History: Foreigners came to this property for the purpose of trading goods, livestock, plants, and all sorts of things.
Foreigners would then spend the night to rest for the next days journey going through the pass of the kolekole’s sheer cliffs, leading onto the north side of the island without having to go all the way around the island to do more trading, gatherings, and telling stories of their journeys.
Then making their way back the next day and eventually back onto their ships.
When King Kalakaua reigned the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1874, I was told from a prominent source, that King Kalakaua acquired huge amounts of coal from different countries. The huge bins that stored all this coal is still in the very same spot and you can see all the scorch marks of coal located on the docks in Pearl Harbor. Unseen by citizens.
The King knew someone will be coming for the collection of $$ for the large quantities of coal. He had no real currency , only his kingdom and lands was what was of interest.
The King wanted to know who will be first to arrive for payment of coal he acquired.

The king had young boys ages 10-16, if I remember correctly, settle on this very place for the purpose of sending these young scouts up to the top of several mountains surrounding this place and along the kolekole mountains to be a lookout for ships coming to Oahu. The Kolekoke is a huge advantage because You can see as far as you can see across the ocean. From the kolekole point, you can see both the north and the south.
These young boys were allowed to be married at a young age and have keikis ( children).

Lualualei Naval Base station, our neighbor, leads to the The kolekole passage from the south and north side. Kolekole is still being used by the United States military. Huge military vehicles drive up and down the lualualei naval road almost every week or even more.
There is tall posts with red lights always flashing. These are low sonar detectors for detecting deep underwater. Submarines??
A retired official who knew my grandfather, tells me one day I should know the history of where I live. I am given the history and shown government records of what I share with you here.
I have seen things not too many people from Hawaii know of.
Maika’i, very thankful to know history of where I live..
I will add more to this listing, But for now come stay, and be a part of history. Learn a skoshi( little) bit of our unique culture of our Hawaii Nei.
Family, cultural, gatherings are celebrated here on this property
Cultural events like, “1st birthdays,”is a historical cultural event due to the fact , Hawaii not having modern medicine to treat serious illnesses, if baby lived to be one years old, it was something big and worth celebrating. This was the biggest celebration than any other. This historical celebration is still going on big today. All cultural events here from different people always have over 150 to over 300 people that are just family and friends. Yes, big family events is also a long time culture in Hawaii. So if you wish, come stay, Be Ohana, Our hanai(adopted) family.
While your here, if there happens to be a cultural event happening, please come join the evening celebration.
You’re privacy and time spent here is important to us. We welcome you to communicate anything you’re interested in on these islands and what we offer. We will provide you with information as best we can. The Kolea, Alaskan migrating birds, also known as the pacific golden plovers come and stay on our property.
The Kolea needs every ounce of support to keep their second home “As Is,” with only small changes. So if you happen to spot one on the property, may you consider taking a little time, less than a minute and take photos and send them to me. These little birds are not swimmers, they will drown. They fly 3 days straight non stop to Alaska, incredibly unique. So come and be still, enjoy your vacation all to yourself. The only people you may see is mom, my Dad(in spirit), Jimmy(property caretaker), and me. Mom and I usually water plants around the property during the evenings when it's cooler weather. FYI, Mom is notorious for gift giving. We accomodate personal tour guides too. Ask me for a lifetime original.
Aloha Mai,
Josephine

Best hospitality of anyplace ever
I would rate this with 5 million stars if I could. It was clean. The house was very nice and the beds were comfortable. It is not a five star hotel but the owner was the best person that I have ever dealt with. She went above and beyond to make sure that everything was taken care of and there for us. I not only found the best place to stay but made a lifetime family and friend in the process. I may not live in Hawaii but my heart will always be there.

Wonderful
We had a wonderful week. The home was clean, beds were comfortable. Jo made sure we had everything needed. If there was something she didn’t have, she tried her best to accommodate us quickly. She had all the things we needed for the beach including a pop up canopy, umbrellas and boogie boards. Thank you Jo for your hospitality!

Great for larger groups
The house is a nice modest home/duplex, which seems to be a work in progress, in a quiet secluded area. The surrounding area isn’t the nicest with a lot of homeless people but the home is far enough away from other homes and the beach area that it doesn’t become an issue with security at the home. The owners, Josie and V, are very nice people who love Hawaii and want the people that stay there to know and also love Hawaii. Overall, this was a good choice for our vacation. We were able to get to things we wanted to see and do during the day and have a quite place to come back to at night. It was also nice to have a place to sit and visit or eat meals together anytime. It was much better for a large group, like ours, than having separate hotel rooms. We would recommend this place to others staying on Oahu, especially to groups that would need multiple hotel rooms.

Quiet and homely!
The stay here has been excellent. The host was very helpful every step of the way even when there was some issues in the city with water, etc. She really makes you feel like ohana. Throughout our trip we were offered helpful local hints to make our stay more enjoyable as well as sights to see and visit. The house was lovely. It’s in remodel process, but that doesn’t hinder anything. After first arriving we initially thought it was gonna be quite the drive everyday being on this side of the island and more in the countryside, but after seeing the madhouse that is Waikiki and Honolulu (high traffic, high amounts of people, and typical bid city stuff), it ended up being the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle. You could really relax and enjoy your trip and take in the sights.

Close to all the things we wanted to see and do but far enough away from the hussel and bussel of the normal tour areas we loved it thank you Jo and V .

We had the BEST time at this place. Everything we needed was there for all of us. West side of the island. Secluded from the hustle of downtown yet drivable as the island is. Good recommendations on places to visit. A shave ice machine and portable hot tub was even included! It was my in-laws and kids first time on the island.. and boy did they have a blast! Cannot wait to return to the island and this beautiful place again. Mahalo from California

Hawaiian Getaway
Nothing can compare to our vacation here. This VRBO had something to offer for everyone in our party. They either had everything we were looking for or is located close to what we needed, adding to the convenience of it all. Being able to eat and relax in our own private lanai was a treat in itself. The jacuzzi in the lanai was perfect after a long day of gallivanting. Everyone in our party always raved about the extra space and amenities, saying “We would never experience all of this at a hotel!” All the amenities it offered were really conducive to and promoted the rest and relaxation which we all were long overdue. We all enjoyed the much needed privacy, peacefulness, and calm afforded by this place. We were also fortunate enough to experience a luau celebration held at the pavilion on this property, at a fraction of the usual cost elsewhere. Not only were we able to check “luau” off our bucket list, we saved a lot of money too! The hosts were friendly, gracious, and accommodating. They gave excellent recommendations for local foods, entertainment, and attractions. Thanks Josephine and Vee for an amazing stay at your VRBO! We will be back!

Great out place to stay
What can I say? This is a great 4 bedroom 2 bath home to stay in. Home was very clean and comfortable. Very well decorated. It has a large patio area to relax outside. Away from the hustle and bustle of town but still close enough drive to see all the sites. Nice beaches close by. The host are very friendly and accommodating. They go out of there way to make you feel comfortable and are always available to answer questions or to recommend things to do in the area. We definitely plan to stay here again if we ever make to back to this island.

Couldn't imagine a better experience!
We needed to head home for a Celebration of Life, we needed a place that was quiet, but not far from the main roads to get us to Ewa, Kapolie and Mililani and on one day even the north shore :-) The house was perfect and the host was thoughtful, kind and very communicative. The case of water that was provided was an unexpected treat! Having a washer and dryer, easy to set-up TV and WiFi made the stay comfortable and relaxing. Two large bathrooms! Large kitchen, island and dining room made breakfasts and dinners super easy for our kids and whole family. We will definitely return, perhaps every time we visit home!
