Sahara is within 5 minutes walk of the Porthilly beach at Rock and within walking distance of the local shops and amenities and St. Enedoc Golf Club.
It has a sunny aspect and is warm and welcoming for family holidays and Cornish getaways being well equipped for large or small numbers.
From the house one can walk up across the Golf course and dunes which gives spectacular views of the island and headlands at the mouth of the Camel Estuary and out to the Atlantic. Dogs are allowed to run all year on the local beaches and dune areas in Rock.
We let weekly throughout the summer usually from Friday to Friday to help with the journeys and to get the full use of weekends. Other start and finish days are possible.
Comfortable and with sea views from the garden, and West facing bedrooms, it has full central heating, some underfloor heating and a log burner to add warmth and focus for those winter evenings.
To enjoy the long summer days there is an outside table with chairs and a BBQ and for those not so pleasant days there is a Sauna Cabin Room for guests to enjoy.
The house is positioned in a cul de sac off Rock Road and there is ample parking in the drive for 4 or 5 cars, boats, etc.
The house sleeps 9 in four bedrooms (the twin room can be converted into a Super King room by zipping together the two beds). In addition one of the sofas in the sitting room can be folded out into a double bed.
Local shops include - Newsagents, Barnecuts Bakery/Cafe, Watts Butchers, Nursery stores -Spar, Delicatessen/Cafe, Wellness, Clock Garage Petrol Station and several Estate agents. There are also some boutiques, beach shops, fish & chip shop, pubs and restaurants. During the summer and at busy times of year there are usually arts and crafts for sale at The Rock Institute, The Rock Art Group (Cowrie) and The Salty Dog (Porthilly Lane). Down off the beach is a the Black Tor Ferry that runs to and fro across the Camel Estuary to Padstow from morning to dusk throughout the year.
Rock is situated near the mouth of the Camel Estuary and is ideal for walking by the sea, golfing at St Enodoc Golf Club, water sports such as water skiing, sailing, swimming, paddle boarding, fishing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Just along the coast: kayaking (Port Quinn or Wadebridge), surfing and body boarding (2.5 miles to Polzeath) and cycling along the Camel trail (either taking the Ferry across to Padstow, or from Wadebridge 6 miles). Longer trips out can take in The Eden Project, Tintagel castle, Port Isaac fishing village, horse riding, adventure centers, etc. There are various brochures and business cards of things to do and see on the bookshelves in the hall and a visitor’s book to leaf through and read about the exploits of former visitors.
The house itself consists of:
Ground Floor : Hallway, sitting room, dining room, WC, kitchen, utility room and large downstairs shower. The former garage is now used as a carpeted playroom and store for your boating, walking or golfing gear.
The sitting room is large and very light with four comfortable sofas and various cushions and a office desk with computer screen and chair. There is wireless internet so bring your smart phone, tablet or lap-top if you want to access it. There is also a 65" TV + chromecast lead, DVD and radio.
The dining room has a large elliptical one piece table which can seat up to twelve and is friendly to talk either across or around making it ideal for large or small groups. It is a light room with patio doors to the front lawn and a hatch through to the kitchen which makes serving simple and ensures that the cooks are still involved with the party. If the weather is fine, meals can be taken out to the large teak garden table on the west side of the house.
The Kitchen is well equipped and easy to work in, with a large double drainer double sink, extensive work surfaces and cupboards and a central table. The oven stack consists of two fan ovens and a high power microwave with a 6 burner gas hob on one side and an additional grill microwave on the other. There is a dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, under work surface fridge and deep fat fryer also available. A separate door leads into the Utility Room with a work surface and units plus a washing machine and a separate tumble dryer. The large Belfast enamel sink is suitable for washing walking boots and wetsuits, etc and taking them straight out of the adjacent back door to dry on the large outside clothes airer.
From the Utility Room can be accessed a downstairs Shower Room with large walk in shower handy for use when coming in from water sports or changing after time spent in the Sauna.
Another door leads into the carpeted playroom/garage where there is a bench sofa along with some toys and games for your use. Also in this area are a couple of childrens' bicycles and storage for the BBQs. Garage door to outside parking area.
Utility Room door to upper decking area - good for sitting out in the morning and lunch time sunshine and leading to the Sauna Cabin. There is also a covered walkway and door to the front parking area. Outside steps lead down to the rear lower terrace area and round the house to the front garden.
