This building was constructed in eighteen-sixty six and served as the county courthouse during Virginia City's stint as the territorial capital. When the present courthouse replaced this one, 3 Catholic Sisters of Charity from Leavenworth, Kansas came and opened St. Mary's Hospital for miners. The hospital briefly prospered till the placer gold was exhausted in. In nineteen forty Mr. Bovey remodeled the interior as a hotel but little has changed on the exterior from the eighteen seventies.
