Polfages where the mountains meet the sea, 3 Gites With Pool And Stunning Views

We have spent 7 years looking for our dream house and location, now that we have found it we want to offer you in Domaine de Polfages the chance to enjoy the best standards found in English country cottages with the lifestyle that can only be found in the South of France. With in an easy drive of Carcassonne and Toulouse and only 15 minutes from the historic town of Mirepoix.

With a location we fell in love with it really is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places we have ever seen. Domaine de Polfages is an idyllic location for your holiday. Situated overlooking rolling hills with views over to the Montagne Noir on one side and the Pyrenees on the other.

It offers a holiday that can be both relaxing and action packed. Domaine de Polfages is ideal if you just want to sit by the pool and relax taking in the stunning views or if you want to make the most of you time in the region. With the beach just over an hour away and the mountains the same you can truly get the best of both types of holiday.

Belcaire is 1 of the 3 gites that we offer our guests, each of the gites are individual units allowing our guests their own private space. However one or all of the gites can be rented for larger parties allowing us to take groups of up to 14 people. The gites have been configured to allow large groups to be together during the day but have their own space if they want in the evening.

Our gite Belcaire is made up of a well equipped kitchen and dinning area leading through to a comfortable lounge. The lounge contains a wood burning stove for those cooler evening's and leads on to the terrace and BBQ area, where you live the alfresco life style whilst relaxing with the stunning views. You can access the garden and pool from the terrace.

Upstairs there are 2 spacious bed rooms with access to the bathroom with walk in shower. Both bedrooms can be arranged with either 2 single beds or a super king size bed, you my maximum flexibility and a great night's sleep.

There is access to WIFI and English TV channels so you can stay in touch with the world should you so desire.

Fantastic property in a beautiful location
We absolutely loved our stay in Polfages. The property is well set up with everything you may need during your stay; the rooms are bright and cosy, and the surroundings are so peaceful and beautiful. Andrew and Jo are fantastic hosts - they showed us around when we arrived, provided us with great recommendations on where to go and what to do and were overall very approachable and understanding (we are travelling with a 3-year-old and 6-year-old). Our kids loved interacting with all the animals - dogs, horses, goats, chickens and elusive cats. And the pool has the best view! It was our first time in Europe and we fell in love with France due to how wonderful our stay in Polfages was. Thank you Andrew and Jo!

Un havre de repos
Très joli gite, vue sublime. Le calme est reposant. Les propriétaires sont accueillants et très serviables. Des petites attentions très plaisantes. Beaucoup de ballades. Recommandation ++++++

Welcoming hosts , excellent accomadation.
We just love to go to Polfages , and indeed have returned there every year since Jo , Andrew, and Jasmine arrived and have opened it up for visitors . Part of the attraction of this wonderful holiday is that the hosts are so welcoming to all of us who go there . We have always received excellent service on every holiday that we have ever had there . That coupled with the superb accommodation , excellent facilities, beautiful views and friendly welcome make it a must to visit . The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful. We love to go to the Castle in Carcassone and indeed make it an annual trip now . The market in Mirepoix is also a must to visit . Mirepoix with its little bars and shops is an absolute delight and well worth a visit. We just love it . The property itself is beautiful and every time I approach it on an annual visit I feel so happy to return there . The gites are always spotlessly clean and well maintained . The fact that I return year after year speaks volumes . I just love going there and catching up with the family and of course the dogs , cats, goats and all ......Always a warm welcome on every visit from all .... Without hesitation I would welcome Polfages to anyone . We will be back next year Jo Andrew and Jasmin ......

Long May weekend stay i a beautiful Villautou gite
The property is in a stunning, peaceful location with breathtaking views across the French country side. It is spacious, clean, well maintained with lovely comfortable furnishings. The customer service was excellent, a catering service is available if required, I can highly recommend the fresh homemade pizzas, they were delicious & very welcome on our first evening of arrival! The owners are very friendly have a great knowledge of the local area & restaurants. On recommendation we visited the spa town of Ax-Les-Thermes at the foot of the snow topped Pyrenees & the views were spectacular. We also visited the superb spa complex fed by the warm water that rises naturally in the town. The nearby town of Mirepoix has plenty of great places to eat and is well worth a visit especially on Market day. I would highly recommend this property, we had a wonderful holiday & hope to return in the future. Thank you.

Great gites in an idyllic location
The gites at Polfages are a great place to relax and unwind. This is our second year, choosing this time to stay in Mazamet (the largest). The views from the gite and pool are stunning and the properties are all equally well finished. Andrew and Jo do a great job of looking after you and have started doing great pizzas to order on those nights where the BBQ seems too much effort. The property is great if you have dogs as you can walk straight off the end of the garden and go for as long or short as you like through fields of corn and sunflowers. The location is nice a rural with silence in abundance yet Mirepoix is only 15mins away and Bram, Castelnaudry, Montbel (Lake) and Carcasonne not much further away. No doubt we will be back.

Stylish and extrememly clean gite, with lovely Laura Ashley bed linen and throws.
We arrived at 12.30 p.m. after a long journey from Paris, but we were still greeted with a warm welcome by our host Andrew, the owner of Polfages. We had pre-ordered a meal and this was ready for us even at such a late hour. This was a gastronomic feast, consisting of baguetes, fruit, wine, juice and chocolate mouse. Our gite was immaculate and the decor attractive and to a very high standard. The view from the pool was over looking filelds of sunflowers with the pyreenees as a back drop. I felt like a celebrity sunning myself my the pool with a view to die for. Jo, Andrews wife was so kind and couldnt do enough to help us. She even managed to get a stain out of my white capri pants. And this lovely couple even offered to baby sit the childrenvso we could have a night to our self. During our time at Villatou we visited the beautiful beach at Narbonne le Page and several stunning historic citys, including Mirepouix, Carcasonne and Narbonne le Cite. I can highly reccomend Polfages to other families looking for a wonderful holiday. I would rate it higher than any other holiday we have had! But I would rather keep this slice of heaven to myself incase it is fully booked next year! We will be booking early to avoid disappointment!

A home from home
We stayed for 5 nights at from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt very welcome by the owners and very settled! Our 4 year old daughter got very much stuck in with the dogs, cats, chickens & goats and was always keen to get back to our gite while we were out exploring. The surrounding area is stunning and the views from around the property were fantastic. Great roads for exploring by bike or car and the nearby towns very much worth a visit. The owners were very kind to give us lots of good tips on places to visit too, so each day was an enjoyable adventure followed by a swim in the pool and a BBQ - sheer bliss! The house itself was lovely, clean and tidy and had all the amenities we needed plus a few nice little extras like cling film, tin foil and washing up liquid - may sound silly, but we always forget to pack these, so it was nice to have them provided so we didn't have to go shopping for them on arrival! On that note, the offer from the owners to pick up basic shopping for us before we arrived was great, as we had come on the overnight ferry to Santander and had a night stopover on the way from there, so we couldn't have brought our own provisions and we arrived when the shops were closed on a Sunday. It meant we could enjoy a lovely meal on our first night without any hassle. We would definitely recommend Polfages to friends and family and look forward to returning back ourselves next time we come to France!!

Polfages Revisited
This was our second stay at Polfages Gites Complex and we were not disappointed. Jo and Andrew (the owners) made us very welcome. We stayed in the same gite as last year and it everywhere seemed fresh and inviting. There is a kitchen diner and a lounge area divided by the staircase to the bedrooms (all en suite). All the decor throughout fresh and modern with a farm house feel. Eggs from the chucks and a bottle of rose in the fridge on arrival were the little extras that were appreciated. Wonderfully situated with stunning views from the Gites and access to local roads and motorways. I celebrated a memorable birthday evening with wonderful food provided by the hosts. Not sure if that is a regular feature lol but the food was exceptional and greatly appreciated by myself and other guests. I can highly recommend Polfages and will hopefully go again soon

Fabulous hospitality in the most beautiful place
The accommodation is clean, comfortable and has everything you need. The proprietors Jo and Andrew cannot do enough to help you to enjoy your stay with them. The location is so peaceful and has the most wonderful views on every side!! We ordered a celebration meal for one of our party - it was tremendous, everything was cooked and prepared to perfection. A lovely atmosphere and beautiful location.

Better than the last time
This was our second visit to Polfages, we came back because of the quality and locations of the gites and were not disappointed. The gite we stayed in this time was up to the same high standard and I had forgotten how great the views were. We took advantage of the newly offered option of meals and really enjoyed the range and style of cooking. Its not often something is better the second time around, however this holiday was.

Even better than our first visit!
We were so impressed with Polfages when we visited in 2014 that we decided to return again this year. Improvements had been made around the pool with a lovely seating area along with more sunbeds, and the view was just as spectacular as before. We stayed in Belcaire again with other members of our family having Mazamet which was great with the adjoining door. The accommodation is very clean and well equipped & all 10 of us had a fantastic week. Andrew & Jo really couldn't do enough for us; they are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. I'm sure we'll be returning in 2016.

Very comfortable stay with very helpful hosts
Our family of 4 had a lovely stay in Calmont. Very comfortable, recently renovated house with everything we needed. Beautiful area and very restful place to stay. Andrew and Jo were fantastic hosts - really welcoming. And Andrew's meal cooking in the evenings was brilliant! Delicious food, reasonably priced and it was great to go out for the day and know that we had a lovely meal waiting for us when we got back. Would definitely recommend this place!

Lovely quiet gite close to Mirepoix
We stayed in Belclaire with our two dogs for two weeks and had a lovely time. The gite is great, well equipped and there is plenty of space both inside and out. The shared pool was a welcome relief from the sunshine and never got busy as there are a maximum of three gites sharing it. Andrew, Jo and Jasmine (plus Rufus an Carmen) make you feel very welcome from the off. There are plenty of walks which can be taken right from the door step which is great especially if you have dogs - we headed out in the early morning and late evening to avoid the heat! There is plenty to do in the surrounding area including visiting Mirepoix, Carcassonne, Bram and Lac Mont Bel the latter being a large lake which you can walk around or paddle across. The canals at Bram and Castel Naudary are accessible and shaded for another nice walk. And there is a seafood restaurant on the Canal in Bram which is definitely recommended. Good wine can be purchased from Domaine Le Fort en-route to Carcassonne - they also have a stall at the market in Mirepoix. If you happen to be there on Bastille Day then make sure you travel to Carcassonne for he amazing fireworks around 1030pm. A few restaurant recommendations in Mirepoix: Chez Paps - Best cassoulet we tasted Restaurant Llobet - Great steak and whole baked fish Le Commerce - simple tasty french food and menu in a lovely courtyard garden Cafe Castignolles - not so good with average at best food! We had a great two weeks and would recommend to anyone. Thanks Heather and James

Stay at Polfages
This was a lovely place to stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful and not intrusive. The accommodation was spacious and well equipped and very well presented. The kids loved the pool which was an ideal size and had a splendid view. Lots of interesting things to see and do within easy driving distance but you could also easily just relax at the villa instead. Would definitely recommend to others.

Relaxing rural break in France
We enjoyed a very relaxing family friendly holiday in this rural setting near Mirepoix. Accommodation was excellent and the hosts (Andrew and Jo) were very welcoming. Would strongly recommend the property which is well situated to take advantage of the area being only 10 mins drive from Mirepoix.

Just Absolutely Brilliant
We stayed at both Belcaire and Mezamet properties in August last year and they were both wonderful. Both had excellent kitchen facilities, everything you could want to prepare your wonderful French food. Both lounges had lovely comfy sofas to watch Corrie and chill out after a busy day visiting the historic towns of Carcasonne, Pau and Lourdes. There was a nice sized terrace to sit and have your bbqs whilst looking out on to miles of beautiful countryside. The bedrooms were all well equipped, good sizes and lovely views. All bathrooms had excellent showers and good views also! The gites were clean and decorated to a good standard and the owners could not have been more helpful. The swimming pool was surrounded by the countryside and an absolute delight. If you want all the pleasures of home, plus the sun and peace and quiet, and with numerous pretty towns, villages and places of historical interest to visit, then this is the place for you - we cannot recommend it highly enough.

Cycling in lower Pyrenees
My wife and I stayed at Belcaire for a week in late Sept / Early October. The gite is situated on a hill with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Recently renovated, it was spacious and well equipped. On arrival, we were given a bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine and fresh eggs laid that morning by the hens. There were also extras like milk, spices, cooking oils etc. All unexpected, but very welcome. The owners, Andrew and Jo, were very friendly and welcoming. Andrew was very knowledgeable about the area and had prepared a booklet on local towns and sights to visit. Wi-Fi worked for our laptop and phones, but was problematic for I pads. BBC TV and a number of books were also available. We were on a cycling holiday and, at this time of year, this area is an excellent location for cycling. There is a vast network of roads that link the many small villages and cars were few and far between, except near Pamiers. The roads were also in good condition. There are a few long stretches of flat roads but mostly rolling hills, but the hills are not too steep. The Gite is on the top of a hill and you need to retain a few calories for the final climb of the day. We had a very enjoyable holiday.

Absolutely fantastic gite and location
Polfages is set in beautiful and tranquil surroundings, with views looking out and across to Black Mountain on the one side the Pyrenees on the other. The gite isvery well equipped, with large bedrooms and bathrooms. It provided everything that we needed. The pool offered a great opportunity to take in the sun and relax whilst enjoying the great views, most enjoyable. The owners were very helpful and able to points us in the right direction for many of the local attractions. Mirepoix is a traditional french market town with loads of medieval history and is only 10 minutes way by car and if you want to eat out there are plenty bars and restaurants to chose from. The city of Carcassonne is well worth a visit and again only 35 minutes away on roads which are a dream to drive on. Polfages is situated between the coast and the Pyrenees enabled us to have the choice of easily visiting the beach or the mountains. All in all a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

No matter which direction you look in you will see the most stunning scenery, the accommodation is beautifully furnished and well equipped, and to top all that off the owners could not be more helpful. I would most certainly make a return visit.

“Excellent gite in a lovely location maki
A new venture for the owners who have really put an effort into making the gite smart comfortable and well equipped. The best equipped and tidiest we have stayed in based on 7 holidays in France, Spain and Italy over the last 8 years. The views are beautiful and sitting by the pool or floating in it you could not be more relaxed. We were given a very warm welcome and tour by the owners on arrival as well as wine and fruit to settle us in. The owners are English and live next door and were great sources of information about the area. The area is great with lovely rolling countryside and local towns Mirepoix, Fanjeau, Pamiers and castles and lakes within 30 mins. Go a bit further for another 15 mins Carcassonne, the Pyrenees, Foix, prehistoric caves or Toulouse, the Black Mountains, Canal du Midi and more spectacular castles are within reach. If you go another 20-30 mins and you are at the Coast if you go south or deep in the mountains if you go west. We were there in late July/early August and the sunflower fields were spectacular giving way to vineyards as we headed south for 30 mins or so. Where the gite is located is however in a quiet and beautiful hilltop. Well worth trying.

Beautiful property
We found Andrew and his family extremely welcoming and we were not disappointed with the accommodation. The property has been beautifully restored and was clean, comfortable and finished to a high standard. The 2 bed gite, Belclaire, was spacious and contained everything we needed. The pool was wonderful and the children enjoyed the company of the dogs and feeding the goats. We will definitely be staying at JJ French Gites again.
