Polfages where the mountains meet the sea, 3 Gites With Pool And Stunning Views

We have spent 7 years looking for our dream house and location, now that we have found it we want to offer you in Domaine de Polfages the chance to enjoy the best standards found in English country cottages with the lifestyle that can only be found in the South of France. With in an easy drive of Carcassonne and Toulouse and only 15 minutes from the historic town of Mirepoix

With a location we fell in love with it really is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places we have ever seen. Domaine de Polfages is an idyllic location for your holiday. Situated overlooking rolling hills with views over to the Montagne Noir on one side and the Pyrenees on the other. It offers a holiday that can be both relaxing and action packed.

Domaine de Polfages is ideal if you just want to sit by the pool and relax taking in the stunning views or if you want to make the most of you time in the region. With the beach just over an hour away and the mountains the same you can truly get the best of both types of holiday.

Mazamet is 1 of the 3 gites that we offer our guests, each of the gites are individual units allowing our guests their own private space. However one or all of the gites can be rented for larger parties allowing us to take groups of up to 14 people. The gites have been configured to allow large groups to be together during the day but have their own space if they want in the evening.

Our gite Mazamet is made up of an open plan 1st floor with a well equipped kitchen and dining area and a comfortable lounge area. The lounge contains a wood burning stove for those cooler evenings and leads onto the terrace and BBQ area, where you can live the alfresco lifestyle whilst relaxing with the stunning views. You can access the garden and pool from the terrace.

The second floor consists of 3 very large twin or double bed rooms. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom.

All the bedrooms are designed to the highest standard of comfort and with the extra space in each bedroom they are all both light and airy.

Picturesque home from home
Stayed over the weekend. The hosts couldn't do enough for us. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Food on arrival was excellent. The accommodation was home from home but warmer and with a pool. Quiet, peaceful location so would need a car to get there and to get around the area.

Our favourite place to relax and unwind
We absolutely love Polfages and everything that this wonderful place brings. Our third family visit in three consecutive years and we will book again very soon for next year. Thank you Jo and Andrew and Jasmine and all the animals for another perfect holiday. This gorgeous place has so much to offer with its countryside location, great weather, 360 degree views, easy access to the sea and mountains, brilliant amenities and amazing hosts to name but a few things. We visited Ax-Les-Thermes which we would recommend as the drive itself is beautiful to the Pyrenees, and the thermal baths are well worth a visit. Our two sons (8 years old) enjoyed the hot baths, even though they couldn't dive bomb in them! We made another trip to Lac de Montbel which being only about 40 minutes away is a lovely lake to spend time on the beach and in the water. It is easier to drive to the North part than the South. Another day trip was to a lake just south west of La Cite in Carcassonne which is amazing for children with lots of inflatables, slides, zip wires and so much more. Definitely recommend going and will be returning next year for a full day and take a picnic. Belpeche is a lovely village nearby with a fab bakers and butchers and I am told you can canoe on the river from there. Mirepoix market is definitely worth a visit on a Monday as they sell absolutely everything! This is a quiet, rural location and you definitely need a car to explore, but as a family we cycled, walked and ran around the local area and this is probably our favourite area of France having visited quite a few over the years. There are lots of day trips to do in the area, of if you like sunbathing then the garden and pool are perfect and have the most amazing views. Thanks again to the Frith family and we miss Carmen, Rufus and Dipstick and the boys want to Facetime the dogs and cats!!! See you in 2018!

Magical and Peaceful
We stayed at Polfage for 7 months and loved the accommodations, the environment and Jo and Andrew who introduced us to so many things and people. It was our first long term let in France, and left such an impression on us. Our dogs miss their dogs and our daily walks down the road with the view of the Pyrenees and the rolling hills, was incredibly wonderful.

Awesome Gite
This was our second visit to Polfage, again in Gite Mazamet. Standard of the accommodation still very high, with a huge warm welcome form Andrew and Jo. Andrew has a great philosophy of 'our guests may only have 1 holiday a year, and if that's with us we need to get it right'. We love staying here! This year we went on trips to Ax les Thermes to the hot spring pools, Lac Montbel (hire an electric boat), car safari at Sigean (tip: go at 4pm when the animals have woken up), Space museum in Toulouse, Fontfroid Abbey. I can also highly recommend a visit to the inflatables at Carcassone Plage and a walk around the city walls at Carcassone Cite. On departure day we drove down to Girona via the Pyrenees which was amazing! Thanks to Andrew's friend for that tip! We'll definitely be back. Thank you Andrew, Jo and Jasmine for such amazing holiday memories xxxx

A hidden gem
One of the prettiest locations we have found in our years visiting France, perched on a hilltop, surrounded by rolling countryside and mountain views to the North and South. We loved Polfages so much last year, that we immediately re-booked for summer 2016 upon returning to England, and will be booking flights and organising diaries for summer 2017 before someone else gets in there first. We absolutely love staying at Mazamet, and once again the place was beautifully clean, well decorated and stocked ready for our visit. The gite is so relaxing and calm, and we love the views from the bedrooms particularly waking up to sunshine coming through the shutters. It is very useful having three bathrooms, and all the rooms are a very good size with very comfy beds and lots of towels and everything required for a comfy stay. The kitchen has everything you need to cook every day, the children enjoyed the pizzas made by Andrew and Jo and especially the baking and puddings on offer. The weather was glorious we spent most of the week by the pool and in the garden, but we enjoyed our daily drive to Mirepoix for provisions, and we did drive to Lac Montbel one day to swim in the lake and sit on the beach, so well worth a visit and probably only 40 minutes’ drive from the house. Castelnaudaray is well worth a visit and the drive there is very pretty. My husband spent all week cycling and hired his bike from a local company which for the second year has been excellent with the bike being dropped off and picked up from the house. Andrew was very kind again to take delivery of this for us on the day before we arrived. We didn’t do as many day trips this year, but Carcassonne is lovely, as well as Narbonne and a trip to the Plage. We watched the Medieval procession in Mirepoix which was very authentic, and some amazing costumes, music and street acts. The boys loved meeting Dip Stick and talked about nothing else for the last year but Carmen and Rufus and Sebastian (please get another guinea pig before next summer?!), as well as wanting to see Andrew and Jo again and take advantage of their wonderful hospitality. Andrew and Jo are so welcoming and helpful and nothing is too much for them, to ensure you enjoy your stay in their beautiful home. We can’t wait until 2017 when we can return again.

Impressed at Pol-Fages
We stayed in Pol-Fages for a couple of days on our way back home from Spain. It was our first time in the area. We were welcomed by Jo, Andrew, their daughter and three lovely dogs. They became our children's (5 and 7) best friends. The house was really welcoming and very spacious for a family of 4. It was fully equipped and clean linnen/towels were provided by our hosts. Dinner was provided on our first evening. The home-made pizza's were delicious! Andrew also insisted to make us a Belgian dish on the eve of our national holiday and it was fantastic. He really is a great cook! We were given a folder with a lot of information on the area and a lot of visiting-tips. They were very handy. Pol-Fages is really beautiful. The view at the back of the house is amazing! The boys really enjoyed running around the big garden and playing in the swimming pool. In the meantime, we could relax and enjoy the view. Pol-Fages will definately be an annual stop when we pass through France!

Better than the last time
This was our second visit to Polfages, we came back because of the quality and locations of the gites and were not disappointed. The gite we stayed in this time was up to the same high standard and I had forgotten how great the views were. We took advantage of the newly offered option of meals and really enjoyed the range and style of cooking. Its not often something is better the second time around, however this holiday was.

Something For Everyone - Pol-Fages - La Bonne Vie!
Upon first sight of Pol-Fages it is easy to understand why people fall in love with the place, it's mix of different landscapes is quite mesmerising - the snow capped Pyrenees a perfect backdrop for the rolling fields which change colour through the season. These French Gites have been lovingly restored to a superb standard providing modern facilities yet in a style sympathetic to its surroundings. From the moment you are welcomed by Andrew, Jo, Jasmine and the extended canine family members Rufus, Carmen, and Dipstick you know you're in good hands as nothing is too much trouble. I spent a week in the 2 bed Gite Calmont which was immaculately presented and had the added bonus of Wi-Fi and English television channels for those who wish to keep in touch with events at home. Equally, you can also just switch off and spend all week relaxing in the grounds, visiting the chickens / goats, or lounging by the pool or terrace. The choice is yours - you can even send your grocery list in advance via the web site so your favourite items can be in your Gite on arrival. If you do want to explore I would recommend to visit Mirepoix with it's 10th Century half timbered buildings and the medieval city of Carcassonne complete with it's own fortress. When the sightseeing is done you can arrange as I did, to sample some of the seasonal menus on offer back at Pol-Fages, all sourced locally with vegetables, herbs, salad and eggs on site - I can vouch for the moules marinere and caramel cheesecake which are to die for! In fact, the only positive thing I found about leaving the place was by the time I'd said goodbye to all my new human and furry friends it reduced the time until I can return.

Polfages, Gite
We were warmly welcomed by the owners, who were friendly, helpful and informative through out or stay. The spacious, 2 bedroom gite was clean and well equipped, the pool well maintained. We loved the situation and spectacular views surrounding the property and the tranquillity. However Polfages is within easy reach, by car of many places of interest. We may have to change our long held belief of never returning to a holiday location, we may be back!! The property description is what you get along with a great welcome from the owners.

Peaceful Getaway
The gites are in the perfect location. The views are incredible and you are only a 10 minute drive from the local town. The area is so peaceful, it's the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. In addition to this, the gites themselves are beautiful! They are fantastically decorated and furnished. I was lucky enough to receive a tour of all of the gites, and each one keeps its rustic feel and has been decorated with such thought. The customer service that you receive is just incredible - Jo and Andrew were on hand whenever you needed them, and we're happy to answer any questions we had. They work very hard to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. During my stay we decided to go horse riding at the local stables, and Jo was happy to see if they had any appropriate footwear for us to borrow. I had such a fantastic time during my stay, and if you're a dog lover like myself it's fantastic! The two dogs that live on sight were adorable and were always on hand to give you cuddles! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, and if you're an early riser, the sun rise is absolutely breathtaking over the hills behind the gites. I highly recommend this holiday, everything about it was excellent and I had a great time!

Too Good To be True
The day before we were due to arrive at the villa, we received at lovely phone call from Andrew informing us that the local supermarket was not open on a Sunday. He even offered to do a small initial shop for us for convenience sake. The beautiful views and countryside are clearly visible on the drive up the road towards the villa, where upon arrival Andrew was waiting to greet us and show us around our Gite. We were pleasantly surprised by our accommodation, it was superbly decorated and well furnished; keeping to its rustic features which added great character to our 2 week stay. The fruit bowl was full, complementary wine was in the fridge and tea & coffee was supplied along with other various cleaning and cooking items (which were of high quality). Our next surprise was the care and attention Jo and Andrew gave to the 3 bedrooms. All were accompanied by a shower/bathroom which were all fitted to a high standard. The beds were VERY comfortable which came with both a duvet and blanket to accommodate for general sleeping comfort. The TV came with satellite which included the majority of all UK TV channels. The lounge area was very spacious with double french doors over-looking the excellent views. The patio was private and came with a BBQ and outdoor furniture and led onto the spacious garden and the pool. The pool itself was a generous size and was still useable during the September months. The poolside had sheltered areas for windy days along with sun loungers and seating areas all of which overlooked the views. An added bonus for us (as dog lovers) were the two friendly and lovable dogs, Rufus and Carman. Which we allowed into our Gite on a daily basis, and they were very obedient and no hassle whatsoever. All the linen was changed half way through our stay. Andrew was always on hand to advise and care for us whenever we needed. We regularly approached him for ideas for days out and he never failed to help us with navigation, especially on the way to Andorra. The convenience of the location includes a 15 minute drive to the local supermarket and the local market square. 20 minutes away are also various activities including Go Karting and Horse Riding, other more adventurous activities can be located in Toulouse which is only just over an hour away. We advise booking through their personal website rather than comparison site. It you are looking for a farm like, rustic feel to your french holiday this is the place for you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rolling countryside - perfect for relaxation
This was the first time we had both visited this area of France and were both a little dubious as to what to expect and if the weather would hold up. I would say we hit the nail on the head in terms of relaxation as Polfages is literally in the middle of nowhere with Mirepoix being a 15/20 minute car journey down the quietest of country roads (hence why we got ridiculously lost getting there - tip for all UK travellers - use the GPS coordinates from Andrew). The views are stunning and evening sun creates magical colours on the surrounding rolling hills and fields - the quietness at night and pitch blackness are noticeable when you live on the outskirts of Birmingham! To sit around the pool in the hot sunshine or paddle in the water overlooking the countryside is exactly what we had been looking for. We stayed in Belcaire which was very well equipped (except for the all important bottle opener which we borrow from next door at first before buying our own which we left behind for the next visitors). Extremely comfortable bed and I am already moaning to my partner that our own bed is too small now that we are home! Useful to have SKY TV to watch UK programmes although we couldn't see any way of getting Wifi - in the end a good digital detox :) My only real disappointment was that the gites appear to be interconnecting with just a locked door on each wall joining the living rooms together which allows for every noise to be heard. With a 2 year old on one side and 5 young people into their formula 1 racing and music on the other it was really rather noisy in the evenings. Andrew, Jo along with their dogs Rufus and Carmen are very welcoming and it was really quite novel watching the hens clucking about the place and being chased in the car by Rufus! Carcasonne is a MUST for this area but you have to like numerous fields of dead sunflowers if you go in early September - I would recommend later on once harvest is over or earlier in the Summer.

A beautiful property, with stunning views
We enjoyed a wonderful week at Polfages. The property has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard, with all mod cons. It was great having Andrew and Jo on site, who were attentive, without being intrusive, always there if we needed anything and very knowledgable about the area. We were a little unfortunate with the weather, but this didn't stop us exploring the area, including Mirepoix (pretty medieval town about 15 minutes drive), Carcassonne (Hilltop, walled town, 45 mins drive) and we even ventured as far as Narbonne Plage in search of the sunshine one day! All in all a lovely week and we would definitely recommend the property to a friend/relative.

Fantastic stay... beautiful, friendly, peaceful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Polfages. We received a really friendly welcome when we arrived early evening. The owners live in the complex and were extremely hospitable and helpful throughout our stay. We had a fantastic week, it was relaxing, peaceful, beautiful everywhere we visited. The roads were so clear and lovely to drive along which added to our relaxing holiday! The swimming pool was a lovely temperature and our 6 year old daughter had a wonderful time playing and learning new things in the pool. The two dogs belonging to the owners were lovely to have around and again our daughter really enjoyed playing with them when they were around. The accommodation is fantastic, it has all been completely renovated over the last couple of years and is very tastefully decorated with all the facilities needed, including WiFi! There were a few essentials in our fridge upon arrival which helped us out! The supermarkets are quite far to drive to so I would advise visiting one before driving to Polfages. There is a fridge and small freezer so we would advise buying icecream of some sort!!😊 also we would encourage you to have bug spray, there were not many bugs around but it is nice to have the windows open at night. 😃.....oh and the shower was amazing!!

The property is clean and homely with all
The property is clean and homely with all the amenities that you would have in a first class rental property. Views are exceptional and there is a relaxing feel to the gite. Just what you hope for on a holiday. ! Able to sightsee or just relax overlooking the beautiful views. The beds and bedding are worth mentioning as they are superb !!! Lovely crisp clean sheets and a very comfortable bed indeed. We also took the opportunity to enjoy a meal cooked by the owners (Andrew and Jo )whilst out there as advertised . It was delicious and I would certainly take up this option again . Andrew and Jo were also able to help us with many hints and tips on what to see and where to go. Very useful when the area is new to you. They both made you very welcome indeed. We will be returning in May next year. Already booked.

Even better than the photos
We stopped looking at other gites when we saw the photos on the website - the picture of the pool with the rolling countryside beyond looked idyllic. And we were not disappointed. The undulating countryside surrounding Polfages is really beautiful with its backdrop of mountains. The gite itself was lovely - spacious, comfortable and very nicely furnished with a large open kitchen and a patio/outdoor dining area overlloking the garden with views across the valley. We spent a lot more time at the pool and a lot less time sightseeing than we had intended because it was just so nice to chill in such pleasant surroundings. And Andrew and Jo, the owners, made us feel very welcome on our arrival and throughout our stay.

A beautiful gite with outstanding views over stunning countryside. The gite has been recently refurbished to a high and very comfortable standard with all the one could need for a stay. Very comfortable bed and magnificent views from the terrace . There was a warm welcome from the owners who were very helpful in providing information about the area and amenities. The pool is situated overlooking the beautiful landscape. The location is ideal for relaxing on the terrace and enjoying the views or an ideal base for exploring the wonderful area. The local town of Mirepoix is the nearest town and shopping area, a magnificent and historic town and well worth a visit. There is a very good market which is worth a visit. The surrounding area is fantastic with the coast only over an hour away and the Pyrenees less than an hours drive, fabulous for walking and great cycling countryside. A fabulous gite to stay and relax and explore the wonderful and histrionic area.

A wonderful holiday
Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The gite was very comfortable, tasteful and well equipped. The garden is beautiful, and the view from the terrace and pool are absolutely spectacular. We enjoyed evening walks, watching the sun go down over the stunning countryside. It's a very peaceful spot. Andrew, Jo and Jasmine are very welcoming and helpful, and gave us lots of information and tips about the area. The boys enjoyed collecting eggs from the chickens and feeding the goats, and even got to go on a mini adventure when one of the dogs went AWOL! It's a fabulous area to explore and we'd recommend visits to Mirepoix, Alet-les-Bains, Rennes-le-Chateau, Montsegur and Lac de Montbel. Thank you again.

Stunning location; gite has all you can p
We arrived after a long drive on a sweltering day and were met with the cool comfort of this lovely villa, with its idyllic setting and a view to die for! We were greeted by the owners who were friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough to ensure we had a pleasant stay. They also gave us essential tips on supermarket opening times and had very kindly provided us with milk, fruit and wine, to get us started. Equipped and furnished to an extremely high standard, the villa more than met our requirements, and the huge double bed was extremely comfortable. There is a beautiful sun terrace to the rear, on which to sit and contemplate the view, or enjoy a barbecue in the sunshine - we did both! The pool was very welcome in the heat and ideally situated to enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside. The nearest town, Mirepoix, is a picturesque Mediaeval gem, don't forget the camera! We found the location to be an ideal base to explore the surrounding area, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Carcassonne, which is truly stunning; the Cathar castles, including Montsegur ( take your hiking boots); and the Mediterranean Coast- Narbonne Plage is well worth the journey with its miles of white sandy beach. We had a fabulous stay and the owners really had thought of everything. The villa was probably the best-equipped that we have ever stayed in, a real home from home. The weather was a bit mixed whilst we were there, but at least it stays warm even when it rains.

10/10 Excellent

“Absolutely amazing.”
The view on arrival takes your breath away. The stunning location makes for brilliant views across the rolling countryside, and up to the Black mountains. After a really early start we were greeted by the owners, who were very pleasant and helpful, and gave us useful information for our stay, as well as doing all they could to ensure we were comfortable. The owner has a good knowledge of France and can speak fluent French, which is very helpful. The gite they led us to was lovely - really well furnished and clearly well looked after. The standard of cleanliness was excellent, which we think is important for a comfortable stay! The kitchen has all the utensils necessary should you choose to cook, and the general decor of the gite was beautiful and fresh. We made a lot of use of the really large terrace and the pool (which, again, was really clean)! As for things to do, Mirepoix is a ten minute drive away and on a market day it really is the french experience. We also drove about 45 minutes to Castle Carcassonne which was a lovely day trip - wear decent shoes because of the cobbles! The weather when we stayed couldn't have been much brighter - definitely a few degrees on the English weather! All in all a very pleasant relaxing holiday in a lovely gite, where we were made to feel as welcome and at home as possible, and we would definitely recommend for families - we will be coming back ourselves!
