The house is nice but when we entered it, we got hit by a strong smell, a mix of cat's urine and chimicals used to hid it. The floor was so sticky that I had to wash it all and the fridge didn't work properly. We figured out that the smell was caused by the air conditioning system and it was a very warm week. We got a 100$ refund but asked for more. I know the host is mad at us for asking a bigger refund but we did troubleshoot the house and our stay was very uncomfortable. This is what we wrote to her, to ask for a refund. She think we should have leave rightaway and ask for a refund but after an 8 hours drive we were too tired and were hoping for a solution that didn't come.

Like I was saying before, we are very disappointed. When we got here after an 8 hours drive, if it wouldn’t have been prepaid, we would have turn around as soon as we were hit by the smell when we stepped into the house.
We acknowledge that you take care of your house and it shows a lot inside and outside. We were just not lucky, maybe? First, the air conditioning that accentuate the odor is a big deal. The nights are very hot but sleeping with the AC on is not an option because of the smell. Secondly, the floors were so sticky when we got in that I had to wash it all. And finally, it is not just the freezer. The whole fridge is not cold enough. We lost food and it was a real hassle to manage our meals and picnics for the beach without being able to have ice packs.
The most annoying thing is the smell. Since we can’t let the windows open when we leave, we have to start the AC and every time we come back, we are discussed by the smell. Considering all those inconveniences, your offer to refund the food we lost is insufficient. We consider that a few days refund is reasonable. We understand that you tried to help but our vacations were ruined by it.
