Located at the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park and with breathtaking views of the Cávado River and majestic Caniçada Dam, Villa Agarb is a stylish and refined holiday home in this unforgettable area of northern Portugal.
Part of a private condominium of around four hectares and surrounded by protected national park land, the villa has use of the communal facilities including large swimming pool and lawns, in addition to having its own private pool and walled garden.
The rooms to the ground floor provide plenty of flexible space and some stunning views. The open plan living/dining area is extensive, featuring two sofas and two comfortable armchairs. A charming fireplace and a large television act as the focal point for this family-friendly space, with a DVD player and selection of DVDs for multiple entertainment options. The dining area features a modern table made from glass and stone and seating for up to six people. Several large patio doors open onto a terrace and the gardens beyond. A well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up delicious meals and also provides access to the outside space. For your convenience there is a downstairs toilet and laundry room with washing machine.
Upstairs is a light, bright shower room that's perfect for a fresh start to the day or a relaxing end to an evening. A luxurious master double bedroom has an ensuite shower room and doors opening onto a very spacious brick and stone balcony. Another double bedroom shares this balcony and the amazing, uninterrupted views of the Cávado River valley. Finally, there's a third bedroom with double bed.
The terrace outside the kitchen features a large built-in barbecue area, with table and chairs for enjoying some local fresh fish and seafood that's grilled to perfection. There's additional seating for meals if required, or for use as an outdoor breakfast space. Location:
Despite its location nestled within the hills of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the villa is only a 15-20-minute walk from the nearest village. Here you will find amenities such as a restaurant serving delicious local food, a cafe/bar and a minimarket.
Take a guided tour of the Peneda-Gerês National Park and you will follow hiking trails that introduce you to the flora and fauna found in this special area of environmental interest. Learning more about the history and geology is all part of the experience too, which makes you appreciate how wonderful the location of the villa is. The Cávado River is a great place to go canoeing, with other water sports such as rafting and canyoning also being available to try.
Approximately 20 km away from the villa is the town of Póvoa de Lanhoso, famous for the medieval Castelo de Lanhoso. The castle has more recently been turned into a local history museum and is a great place to get panoramic views across the town below and areas further afield. Heading into the centre of town, Pontido Park is a lovely green space in which to go for a cycle ride and for younger children to enjoy the playground and skate area.
A short drive from the centre of Póvoa de Lanhoso is the quirky must-see site of the Calvos Oak. The tree is estimated to be around 500 years old and has become an unlikely tourist attraction within an attractive park that's ideal for picnics and walks.
