Welcome to the Groovy Lake House. Step inside our time capsule home built in 1974 with some fresh mid-century modern updates. The house is situated on 8-acres next to Lake Champlain and just a few miles from the Champlain Bridge leading into New York and the Adirondacks. Enjoy year-around fun with swimming, sight-seeing, hiking, leaf-peeping, bird watching, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, stargazing, pie-eating, and relaxing. Stay and take it easy. This very spacious house has no shortage of places to lounge. Great for family get-togethers, a gathering of friends, a writer’s retreat, or anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. The living room features a rotary phone with a bluetooth adapter that will connect to your smartphone; a telescope so you can take advantage of the vivid night sky views or do some birdwatching; and magazines from the ‘70s. In the study, put a record on and turn on the old analog TV or play a tune on the piano for ambience...it doesn’t get any channels, but there sure is something soothing about the glow of a snowy screen. In the dining area, watch the sun rise and play some old-timey board games. Catch the sunset from the sunroom, and get peek-a-boo views of the lake in the winter when the trees lose their leaves. Enjoy the game room downstairs in the finished basement, or cozy up on the couch and watch TV. But don’t forget to get outside and explore all the sights the area has to offer. While we’ve modernized the house where necessary (new furniture, flatscreen TV, some new appliances, fresh coats of paint where needed, etc.), we’ve preserved some of the original 70s elements of the house (such as the wallpaper and original bathroom vanities) where possible. This gives it an authentic charm. But it also means not everything in the house is shiny and new. We ask that guests don’t use the fireplaces in the house to avoid fire hazards. We follow a five-step enhanced cleaning process. We sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknobs. We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies, and we wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination. We refer to cleaning checklists to thoroughly clean each room. We comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines. The driveway parking area is set back about 30 yards from the house. Guests will need to walk on the path from the driveway 30 yards to reach the house, so please keep this in mind for walking those groceries and luggage the last stretch. Guests will have the entire house to themselves. We’re available by phone, text, or email when needed and will respond promptly. The Groovy Lake House is private and secluded, but there’s a multitude of sights to see and activities to enjoy all around. Public access to Lake Champlain is just over 2 miles away in Arnold Bay (location of the first naval engagement during the Revolutionary War), there is a public dock to launch your boat, kayak, or just take a swim. The adorably quaint town of Vergennes--Vermont’s first “city”--is very close, and boasts delightful restaurants, a charming downtown, and waterfalls. Enjoy miniature golf around the corner from the house, or full-scale 18-hole golf at Harbor Basin. The area is also brimming with history, including the spectacular ruins at Crown Point State Historic Park--a British fort built in 1759 and captured during the Revolutionary War in 1775. Other nearby noteworthy sites include Button Bay State Park, Port Henry, Burlington, Ticonderoga, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory, and cross-country skiing at Rikert. And just a daytrip away, you can hike the Adirondacks and explore Montreal, Canada Other things to note While we’ve modernized the house where necessary (new furniture, flatscreen TV, some new appliances, fresh coats of paint where needed, etc.), we’ve preserved some of the original 70s elements of the house (such as the wallpaper and original bathroom vanities) where possible.
