Large rooms and private
It's old and a bit dark but the feeling of privacy is there to make it like a home for long stays. It's now closed and hopefully not permanently or for a remodel that will make the prices go up. The staff was always helpful. Hopefully the workers are paid for their time off from work considering it's not their fault they lost their jobs. But it's Mexico and labor has no protection there and that's why so many Mexicans make the journey north to the United States. Hopefully Trump is a 4 year blunder and everything he does is overturned.

Nice hotel in the heart of Veracruz
I wanted to stay near the main square in Veracruz to enjoy the great nightlife in the port. I got a junior suite with a balcony looking into the square. Since we were on the fifth floor, noise was not an issue. We enjoyed our stay and will definitively stay there again.

Location is great
Great location near the malecon and zocalo. Lots of activity. Very good restaurants nearby. The staff was very helpful. Very nice balcony on the upper floor with great views. Our room had an excellent view of the harbor.

My prepaid guarenteed room wasn't
I prepaid and reserved for late arrival 4 weeks in advance and when I arrived at 7:00 pm my room was rented to 3rd parties, They did put me in a 1 star 14 by 12 foot double in a less safe part of Veracruz . I will never darken their door again

Night Overcharged!
The Hotel is old, the outside doesn't match the inside. It needs an emergency update! It's location is in low-med end neighborhood, although it's in the downtown. You have to call the operator to get a hair drier or an iron! If you make online reservations, you better bring your printed receipt or they won't honor your reservation code. I'm sure we were overcharged!!

Great location for a basic hotel
The hotel is really well located right on the main square. Perfect for sightseeing and soaking up the culture. The hotel is very basic but is clean so as long as you know what you're looking for then it is fine!

Great location, but needs updates
The location is perfect - the lobby door opens right on to the zocolo. The room was clean - but there was a strong odor of cleaning supplies so we had to keep the window open. The beds were extremely firm and not very comfortable. The bathroom was showing signs of its age with a broken light fixture and some mold/mildew around the shower. The room was located on the backside of the hotel so it was very quiet. Overall, I would consider staying there again if I could find a deal on the rate. A quiet, clean room right in the center of town is what we wanted. However, the hotel really needs to invest in some upgrades like newer mattresses and bathroom makeovers if it is to appeal to a wider range of visitors.

Vacation
The cable is worthless, the door frames are rusted, the window in the bathroom didn't lock, the AC is controlled by a damper instead of a thermostat, the cleaning woman had a bad attitude and didn't clean very well, the staff in general had a bad attitude and were nosey. I will never go back and I suggest that nobody ever go back. The only good thing is the location. However, there is plenty of competition nearby with a cheaper one I know of that has done a lot better but they aren't on here.

A gloomy, overpriced motor inn
This is a basic place to crash. Everything is pretty beat up, and try to avoid checking in afternoons on weekends--the desk gets mobbed.

Great location, good price, noisy cieling fan
Clean, conveniently located, and budget priced. Would have received a much higher rating if the ceiling fan hadn't sounded like it was going to rattle itself right off the ceiling and onto the bed. Our room was in the back, so we were not disturbed by the noise on the plaza.

Great location in fun area
Friendly staff, but better--the best location possible. Right on the Zocalo, main square, with tons of resturants and bras, and only two blocks from the Malecon. Very safe area, with lots going on. They gave me a queit room, but the bed was pretty hard.

Horrible, depressing hotel.
The hotel is horrible, poorly maintained, it smells. We had some contact with the reception's staff. They couldn't care less. We went to the room, closed the door right away and left. The place is depressing. Lost our money, but that is not as bad as having to spend a night there.

Great value
The place is a bit old, the pool very little, but who cares? It is located right in the plaza, few steps from the port and it is in good shape. The staff is wonderful. The place is totally worth what you pay.

Not worth it. You can get better for same price.
To be fair the hotel is not all bad, the staff was very nice, but we just expected a lot more for the price since we have traveled a lot in Mexico. However I do not recommend that you stay in this hotel. First, the air conditioning did not work at all (even though the staff insisted that it did) and AC is a must in Veracruz. Second, the furniture in the room was quite old and the first room they gave us smelled of cigarette smoke even though we asked for a non smoking room. The second room was better although it did smell like a public bathroom. All the rooms were damp. The hotel is dark and gloomy. The "continental breakfast" promised in the booking was consisted of a glass of orange juice and a bowl of Corn Flakes. It was also served an hour late. We had booked (and paid for) three nights but left after one and went to the Villa del Mar and got a way better room, better service and a better breakfast for the same price. Sure, the location of the Colonial is good, but a taxi ride from Villa del Mar to the center is about 3-4 USD so this hotel is so not worth the price. I would never stay there again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Hotel Colonial - Veracruz - central to everything
This hotel was wonderful, we walked everywhere, even in the evening - very safe. Restaurants were close at hand, right outside the door if you want, and everyone, I mean everyone was helpful. We don't speak spanish, but people were more than willing to use sign language. All hotel staff spoke English. We will return, and recommend to everyone we know.

Great location but a little shabby
If your looking for a hotel in the centre of all the action then the colonial fits the bill. It is however not the height of luxury and if you can afford a few pounds more try the Diligencia just across the square. Our room on the 5th floor to the rear of the building was extremely noisy. There seems to be a ventilation shaft servicing the airconditioning fans that backed onto our and a assume many other rooms. That apart, we had free wifi ( in the lobby only) and there is a great comunial terrace on floor 5 thta overlooks the plaza

The heart of Veracruz
The hotel is located right next to the Zocalo, where most of the traditional activities happen. Everything is within walking distance. Hotel was clean and the staff were courteous and helped when requested. On the flip side, the rooms on the front of the hotel, with the balconies, have very poor sound proofing, which made it impossible to sleep at night without the use of earplugs, due to all the music being played til the wee hours of the morning. I went there to experience the music so I didn't mind as much, however, if you want to sleep, rent a room in the back of the hotel. This is my second time in this hotel, having stayed there about 15 years ago, and I would go there again for a similar experience. Enjoy!
